Samba 1.9.16p11
Hi, The Samba 1.9.16p11 is installed on Solaris 2.7 and works well with win95/98. The folders of Solaris can be mapped as a remote drive on a win95. However, when win95 is replaced by winNT4.0 the same Samba no longer works. It displays following message when I try to map a solaris folder to a win drive. "The account is not authorizeded to login from this station". I try to add a

Name Resolution Order Question (1.9.16p11)
I know this is an older version, but we're currently working on a project that has encountered some broadcast storms and fingers have begun to point to samba. I don't believe this is the case, but I find my knowledge of the resolution mechanism for nmbd to be sorely lacking. I know later versions than ours (1.9.16p11) included a "name resolution" parameter in smb.conf, but I

SUMMARY: Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
My whole problem as far as samba was concerned was not compiling with DES support *and* that I did compile with FAST_SHARE_MODES. One clue was this in the samba.log. file. I then did a dejanews search for smb_shm_open and came up with that portion of the solution. ERROR smb_shm_open : mmap failed with code 11 The DES portion came from just reading the WinNT.txt file that came with Samba. I

Was: WinNT 4.0 Wrkstaion reconnecting all local drives to Samba 1.9.16p11 share
Hi, just want to answer my own question a while ago. My Win NT 4.0 wrkst kept reconnecting to our Samba server (Aix 3.2.5) until all local drives where used! This has been resolved by changing the setup on the NT workstation to local settings for Norway. (It used to be US settings). Anyway, it now has stopped reconnecting. My only smb.conf parameters that **maybe** caused this to happen

Amanda 2.3.0.5-Samba 1.9.16p11 PC backups...
At the bottom is what I got returned from AMANDA 2.3.0.5 after patching Samba 1.9.16p11 to give estimates. Any idea what I might not have done yet? My disklist reads: shokk \\thor\depot nocomp-user-gnutar To connect successfully to that server with smbclient, I have to do this, giving the same password that I now have in /etc/amandapass: smbclient \\\\THOR\\DEPOT -U BACKUP Also, the

Passwords fail from Win95 but not from DOS (Samba 1.9.16p11/NetBSD)
Hi, I'm having some problems with Samba 1.9.16p11 on a Sun3/60 running NetBSD 1.2. I have a Win95 client and a couple of DOS clients on a single ethernet segment (it's at home :-). I've set up a simple configuration, intention was just to serve files from the Sun to the PC's. Everything works perfectly except authentication from the Win95 client. I can connect to the Samba shares

1.9.16p11 and Windows 95 app conflicts
We installed Samba 1.9.16p11 on our Solaris 2.5 Sparc server here and we are having some difficulty getting Windows 95 programs to access the Samba shares. Many of the programs work, and we are dedicated to using Samba, and we have a lot of stuff out there, and we are using it effectively. But we have a few problems with a few programs. One of the possible solutions to this problem is to upgrade

defunct smbd processes on SGI
Hello We are running samba on SGI/SUN/HP fileservers. We saw a problem on the SGI fileservers. After a while a lot of defunct smbd deamons were hanging and occupying the slots in the process table. We saw the problem with IRIX 5.2 and samba 1.9.16p11 and IRIX 6.2 and samba 1.9.17.p4 . Has anybody seen this problem before? This is a serious problem, because the smbd daemons are filling the

Samba and Microsoft DFS
Has anyone tried DFS Client SW on a Win 95 machine and then tried to mount the usual samba drives? All I get is a login request that gets refused even with known, correct, credentials. Its appears just the same as the problem we got after installing SP3 on an NT4 machine before changing the registry. The only way to fix it is, on the 95 machine, to remove the DFS client, remove ALL the network

SAMBA digest 1372

That would be a *really* bad idea. See the l0phtcrack source for details :-). Seriously, though. The password hashes used on NT are very poor. They don't use salt and people are now

NT 4.0 Client and Win95 clients and browsing problems in general.
I am using samba-1.9.16p11 and have not been able to make browsing work from my 9.04 HP where it is on a switched ethernet segement alone. I have tried many combinations including remote announce to networks as well as Our NT Domain Server/ Win Servers. All to no avail. I am sure there is some key point I am missing. In fact my clients have to have DNS turned on in addition to WINS in order to

smbmounted shares don't stay mounted
I'm running Linux 2.1.130 on an AXP, with Samba 2.0 beta 2. I have smbfs enabled in the kernel with Win 95 bug fixes enabled but I'm not running smbd. The server containing the share is an HP running Samba 1.9.16p11. I mount the share with smbmount //hpname/share -c 'mount /home/me/mydir' All is well for a while (~1 hour), but then I get kernel: smb_get_length: recv error = 5

Locking with M$-Access 97
This is a REAL problem on the way to world domination ;-) PROBLEM: since we moved a MS-Access MDB (16 Meg) to samba, it ist killing queries more than twice a day, loosing records, ... It seems the application has no chance to recognice locked records and inform the user. with smbstatus I get one locking entry for the first user accessing the database (like: DENY_NONE RDWR), the second is not

Unable to browse
I have two problems running Samba on Solaris 2.51, Samba version 1.9.16p11. 1) When browsing the CADCAM group, which is where the Sun group is, the CADCAM name shows up on Explorer, but when I click on the group to browse the contents, the '+' disapears and the group apears to be empty. We can, however, map drives using \\sun01\sharname' directly. 2) When we dial into the network

SAMBA requesting to be a master browser....
We are running samba 1.9.16p11, and seem to be doing just fine. Last Month, our IT dept informed us that our machine was attempting to be a master browser, which the NT Wins server was not happy about. Below is my global config options. When I killed/restarted the samba daemons (running as daemons and not via inetd) the problem seem to vanish. Feeling this was a fluke, it was dismissed.
