That would be a *really* bad idea. See the l0phtcrack source for details :-). Seriously, though. The password hashes used on NT are very poor. They don't use salt and people are now speculating on using the unicode regularity of NT hashes (alternating zero bytes) to attack that further. This is the reason I say in ENCRYPT.txt that the smbpasswd file must be read only for root, no permissions to anyone else. Oh, and it's also plaintext equivalent, as far as the smb protocols are concerned. Making it available via NIS/YP would be bad. Jeremy Allison. Delete the half-written profile files and try again. max mux = 50 This is now a default parameter in the 1.9.17alpha code. Let me know if it works. Thanks, Jeremy Allison. Nevermind. It seems to be fixed in the 1.9.17a5 version on my Solaris machine, so I'll ignore it for the 1.9.16p11 version on SunOS. -Ernie>Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 11:21:44 -0400 >To: samba@arvidsjaur.anu.edu.au >From: Ernie Oporto <ernie_oporto@mentorg.com> >Subject: Re: SAMBA digest 1372 >In-Reply-To: <19970731125751Z66110-29307+1446@arvidsjaur.anu.edu.au> > >Anyone?
