I haven't put this to the test yet, though. (I use default ACLs extensively so unless I was restoring a whole tree, files tended to get the right ACLs automagically even under the old version.) I've been reasonably happy with NovaNET, except for some database corruption issues that seem to have been fixed in the latest version. It's a good solution if you need to back up Windows or NetWare systems as well as Linux. It's not free, however, so if all you need to do is back up Linux there may be a cheaper solution.

Hi, as far i know tar supports acls p Restore the named files to their original modes, and ACLs if applicable, ignoring the present umask. This is the default behavior if invoked as super-user with the x function letter specified. If super-user, SETUID and sticky information are also extracted, and files are restored with their original owners and permissions, rather than owned by root. When this function modifier is used with the c function, ACLs are created in the tarfile along with other information. Errors will occur when a tarfile with ACLs is extracted by previous versions of tar .
