Hey everyone. Our network has a PII 350Mhz Windows NT server. It serves as our PDC. It also serves our email, print and file sharing needs. We have plans of totally phasing out this computer. There are two candidates for the replacement of our PDC. One is a PIV 1.7Ghz with 768MB of memory (hostname: Karou). This computer is currently our intranet web server. The other computer is a PIV 2.8Ghz with 512 MB memory (hostname: Misau). There are several services that may be distributed between these computers and we have approximately 100 windows users and 50 linux users. These are: 1. Intranet web server 2. Email server 3. File sharing (file server) for both linux and windows users using Samba 4. Print server for both linux and windows users 5. DNS (implementation in the near future) 6. DHCP (implementation in the near future) 7. MySQL server 8. LDAP My problem are: Which of the 2 computers is the best one to be used as a PDC. Most probably, the other one will be used as a BDC. I don't have an experience with Samba as a PDC before but the plan is a PDC implementation of Samba+OpenLDAP. Our linux computers are already using LDAP authentication. My plan is: Hostname: Karou (PIV 1.7Ghz, 768MB DDR) Will serve as: 1. PDC 2. Email server 3. Print server 4. File server 5. DNS 6. DHCP 8. LDAP master Hostname: Misau (PIV 2.8Ghz, 512MB DDR) Will serve as: 1. Web server 2. MySQL server 3. BDC 4. LDAP slave 5. File server Is there a better way to distribute the services between these two? Thanks a lot. ________________________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
