Does pxelinux work with >1GB RAM?
On machines with 2GB RAM, pxelinux doesn't seem to work for me. With Intel PXE, I had to limit the memory available to PXE to 768MB RAM. Has anyone tried pxelinux on machines with >= 1GB RAM? How do I limit memory to 768MB for pxelinux? H.J.

Help with PDC hardware
Hey everyone. Our network has a PII 350Mhz Windows NT server. It serves as our PDC. It also serves our email, print and file sharing needs. We have plans of totally phasing out this computer. There are two candidates for the replacement of our PDC. One is a PIV 1.7Ghz with 768MB of memory (hostname: Karou). This computer is currently our intranet web server. The other computer is a PIV 2.8Ghz with 512 MB memory (hostname: Misau). There are several services that may be distributed between these computers and we have approximately 100 windows users and 50 linux users. Thes...

Processor Size
Can someone give me an idea of the processor power I will need for 1 x TDM240 with 2xquad FXO's and 8 sip phones/ATA's on a quite 100Mbit LAN. The machine we have available of hand is a P4 1GHz with 768MB RAM. Tx Marnus van Niekerk -- "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." kickstart: gfx vs. txt mode
Hello, I seem to recall from my redhat5/6/7 days that certain installation methods used for kickstarting only invoked text mode install. Now I read that graphical install is default in kickstart on el5/6. However, in my test environment (with older HP DL140G3) I only get text mode install up, even if I specify graphical in kickstart file, with both nfs and http install methods. There's no

I tried using the command line to see if there would be any error or debug info, but no dice since Steam actually launches the games. Help anyone? So sadly chumbys, beagleboards, iThingis(?), Raspberry Pis, Gumstix and even inexpensive Tegra2 boards seem to be out of contention and relegated to target testing. Based on my observations minimum memory required to build LLVM-3.0 seems to be 768MB to 1GB of RAM plus a 1.2+ GB of free disk space for one kind of build. Severe VMware slowdown
...am transitioning into the VM from elsewhere. I verified this using the CentOS system clock - last night it stopped at 23:01 and still read 23:01 when my cell phone, which is usually dead on in sync with the system clock, read 11:04pm. I cut back on the amount of memory allowed to the Windows VM (768MB, down from 1GB) and that seemed to help a little, but I have 2GB and I'm thinking that this should not be a problem. Any input would be helpful. Thanks. mhr P.S.: Now I'm thinking that my earlier remark about applications was a bit overstated....

Corrupted RPM DB can't be rebuilt.
Alle, I have a major problem. I'm running CentOS 5.5 on some rather old hardware (Dual Celeron 500MHz with 768MB of memory). Sometime in the last week, the DB became corrupted (I noticed when yum update would hang). I've tried running rpm --rebuild with both the 2.6.18-194.17.4 and 2.6.18-194.26.1 kernels and get a segmentation fault each time. Consequently, I'm pretty much stuck and cannot do any u...

Windows Xen VM's have high guest CPU usage and poor performance
...Xen is just performing poorly while handling these Windows VMs. Any suggestions? I have Windows VM's on other hardware (typically PowerEdge R905s and R710s and they seem ok). This 2950 is a decent machine.. 32G RAM, 2x Xeon E5405 (quad core) at 2ghz. And I'm only allocating 1 CPU and 768MB RAM for each VM. Opinion on hardware (computer) for an Asterisk Server!
Hi list, I'm about to install Asterisk on an Old HP NetServer LC2000 Server (year 2001), it has 2 Pentium III 1GHz CPUs (Coppermine FSB 133MHz 256K L2 Cache), 768MB PC-133 ECC RAM, 3 UltraSCSI LVD2 18.2GB 10K RPM HDD in RAID5, 100Mb NIC for server. This Server will support 35 SIP phones (users) and 10 FXO ports (for telco lines) and 2 FXS ports (internal analog phones) with a Sangoma Remora A400 PCI card. What do you think? is this hardware enough for this s...

Really high load average. Config problem?
helo I am running samba on an 800 Duron / 640MB PC2100 DDR Ram / 40 GB IBM Deskstar with slackware 8 / 2.2.17 Optimized for Duron. Whenever I copy files to the server, my load average gets to be about 6.0-8.0! On the 700 Duron we have at the office where I work, (same specs except it has 768MB of SDRAM and a RAID Array). Would the reason my box runs so slow be because its swap drive and the main drive are on the same drive? I've tried tweaking the config, but nothing seems to make my load average drop to an acceptable level. Nick -------------- next part -------------- HTML attach...

Minimum RAM requirement for CentOS 6.x graphic installer?
Hi, The title says it all. What's the minimum RAM requirement for the CentOS 6.x graphic installer? In our public libraries we have some old hardware running CentOS 5, and I wonder if some of these machines can be upgraded to CentOS 6. Unfortunately RHEL 5.x' nifty text mode installer got seriously crippled with version 6.x. Cheers, Niki Kovacs -- Microlinux - Solutions informatiques

CentOS newbie just saying hello

The 300GB unit is a SATA disk which I hope to software (hardware!?) mirror - if I'm in for any major fun mirroring a SATA drive do let me know now - I think hardware mirroring is not an option (yet!?) but I haven't checked this out completely. Asterisk System Setup Question
Hi All, I have done some research on Asterisk and I would like to try it in my office. Here's what I'm looking at for my system: AsteriskNow running one of two ways: 1) As a virtual machine on a VMWare server (Eight core Xeon server with 4GB ram) 2) on a P4 2.4Ghz with 768mb RAM I'm looking at 4-5 phones in the office. I was going to go with Grandstream or Polycom phones but I've heard people have had some issues with that. The Aastra 51i seems to be a good choice. I'd eventually like to link my Asterisk installation with my CRM, so the XML capabilities...

Randomly and horribly slow
...hope to not be wasting anyones time. I also asked on the Ubuntu forums with no replies, so I figured it must be a tricky issue that only the creators of Wine can answer. Some info you may want: I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04. It works perfectly fine, including 3D. My computer is a 2.2GHz P4, 768MB of RAM, with a Radeon 9200SE. I am dual booting with Windows XP. Yes, I know its bad but I only plan on using this computer for work and its plenty good enough for that. (BTW, this computer is made entirely out of spare parts, I paid nothing for it directly.) Anyways, I installed Wine and the f...

Finally making some progress
...inal firewall is a PPro200 with 256Mb, an Intel E100 and a DLink DFE500 (Tulip) card. Kernel 2.4.22-37 and 2.4.22-28, but both were compiled to remove most of the unnecessary junk, but care was taken to include netfilter stuff needed for firewalling. The current firewall that works is a P3/667, 768Mb, same NICs as above, same shorewall config as above, but a stock 2.4.22-37 Mandrake "secure" kernel. The *most* interesting thing is that this *identical* machine (the current firewall) has *not* undergone any changes aside from installing another 512Mb of RAM. Kernel is the same, a...
