Here is the link to the 2K explanation of this that I was able to find on the
net. Saved my butt. I don't have/allow any XP on our network so I am
unable
to look at the config options to see if this works for XP. Hope it helps

Yes I have changed the network setting in XP in the advanced WINS page
of the TCP/IP properties dialogue by checking the radio button next to
"Use NetBIOS over TCP/IP." Is there something else that I should have
done to include SMB over NBT? Did I forget an XP configuration step?

2K) to include SMB over NBT (Netbios over TCP/IP) instead of just SMB

TCP/IP in order to have SMB communicate on ports 137-139 instead of 445

This got rid of some 2K issues I was having with Samba.
