I have problem connecting a win 98 client to a samba 2.2.5 server on a linux box running redhat 7.2 I can see the server on the client but when I click the server icon I get \\lindoze is no accessible. At that moment I have scanned the lan card an I have this screen dump. 04:15:55.053492 kjersti.hauge.netbios-ns > 192.168.0.255.netbios-ns:>>> NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; REQUEST; BROADCAST04:15:55.802612 kjersti.hauge.netbios-ns > 192.168.0.255.netbios-ns:>>> NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; REQUEST; BROADCAST04:15:56.557472 kjersti.hauge.netbios-ns > 192.168.0.255.netbios-ns:>>> NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; REQUEST; BROADCAST04:15:57.308943 kjersti.hauge.netbios-ns > gurney.bluecom.no.domain: 198+[|domain] 04:15:57.334262 gurney.bluecom.no.domain > kjersti.hauge.netbios-ns: 198 NXDomain[|domain] (DF) 04:16:02.333119 arp who-has kjersti.hauge tell knut.hauge 04:16:02.333423 arp reply kjersti.hauge is-at 0:c1:26:b:cd:66 kjersti.hauge is the name of the client and bluecom.no is my iSP. knut.hauge is the lindoze. I intepret this as the client first try to connect to my isp and thereafter came the first arp telling the server who-has kjersti.hauge Then we get a reply with a starnge number. I think that is the hw address of the windoze NIC.Anyway I thought it should be written 00:C1:26:0B:CD:66 I bought it yesterday and is a RealTech 8139 card. However the internet connection works from the client mashine. I'am behind a iptables firewall with nat and masquerade, but all inputs from the lan card is set to -j ACCEPT.And internet works through the same card, so I dont think it has nothing to do with the firewall, The last lines in nmbd.log look like this. [2002/09/29 03:49:57, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(794) Netbios nameserver version 2.2.5 started. Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1994-2002 [2002/09/29 03:49:57, 0] lib/pidfile.c:pidfile_create(86) ERROR: nmbd is already running. File /usr/local/samba/var/locks/nmbd.pid exis$ I think the ERROR occour because I start nmbd each time I have edit the smb.conf file and started the nmb deamon again. So if somebody could help out of this I would be happy. ______________________________________________________ Se den nye Yahoo! Have you walked through DIAGNOSIS.txt in the samba sources? Joel
Well, I guess it is important to find out why net use and nmbd don't work. That might explain why you are having this problem. Now, what is the first test to fail? (Specify the number and what you have done to try to fix it.)
