Redhat firewall problem...
I've just tried setting up a Shrike (9) version of Redhat. Using the
medium settings of lokkit, then adding manually accept commands for
ports 137/udp 138/udp, 139/tcp and 445/tcp, I thought I should have been
ready to go.
This isn't the case, however. I know it's not the smb.conf settup
because when I kill iptables samba works.
When iptables IS running however, it will respond

Cant print from the windozes.
Well I have samba 2.2.5 installed on a lindoze and a local printer
connected to it. I can print through samba to the printer by typing
this from the command line. lp -P %p filename % and this lpr -P %p
filename %s
I also have cups installed but can not print with this command
lpr-cups -P %p filename %s.
I log inn as root on the win95 client and...

simple setup for 2 pcs
I'm having lots of trouble getting connected to samba on my little 2
computer network at home. One is a RedHat machine and the other is
Windows 2000. Trying to access my just the IP of the RedHat machine
from my Windows machines gives me the "Cannot find the file or item
'\\192.168.20.2'" error.
I've got 2 NICs in my RedHat machine so I did use the "interface

Samba 2.2.8a on RedHatLinux 8.0
I have installed Samba2.2.8a on a RedHatLinux 8.0 server. After trying
several different changes to the 'smb.conf' file and several other
tests I still cannot see the samba Server from the windows XP and
windows 2000 client. When I run smbclient -L localhost this is what I
get:
added interface ip='ip address of my host' bcast=x.y.z.255(actual

Problem of accessing Redhat 7.3 from Win2K.
Hi there,
I am new to samba server. I just installed the samba suite (samba, samba-common, samba-client) for Redhat 7.3. After started samba server, I found there is no way for me to access the Redhat machine from Win2K. From the Win2K machine, I can see the linux machine name under folder 'My network places' , but I always get the error message " \\machine_name is not accessible.

...positive part I said - about great job both RH and
CentOS teams are doing!
But coming back to negative part (which is about almost any Linux
distribution). These often reboots started in my recollection around 2.6
kernel which is long ago. Already then one of my friends started calling
Linux "Lindoze" apparently stressing you need to reboot it often, like MS
Windows. I would suggest to take his label with a grain of salt, as he is
the one who also used funny name for another well known system, after
Oracle bough out Sun Microsystems he called Sun-Oracle "snorkel" (as if

Problem Seeing Linux Machine From Windows Machine
I am very new to Samba, so please excuse this naive question.
Samba seems to be working properly from my Red Hat 7.2 system. I am
using a GUI called xSMBrowser, and am able to transfer files back and
forth to the Windows machines on my network.
I now want to access my Linux system from a Windows 98 machine. I can see
it ('Mail') in 'My Network Places' within the workgroup

Newbie Configuration of 2.2.3a on HP-UX 11.0
I have installed Samba with a depot I downloaded from the HP-UX Porting
and Archive Center. We have an intranet site on an HP-UX 11.0 box, and
ultimately, my goal is to have links on the Web pages open up files
(Word docs, etc.) on various Windows machines (XP, 2000, NT).
I'm having difficulty getting Samba to work at all. I've scoured past
newsgroup posts, and I'm not finding

Win 2000 & XP Printer problem
I'm running Samba 2.2.5 on HP-UX 10.20.
I've recently started adding WinXP (and 2000) clients to my network.
Here's my issue: (It seems to effect both the XP & 2000 machines)
I installed a WinXP machine on the network. I was able to add a
bunch of samba-networked printers to the Xp machine.
I recently added 2 new printers to the network. I added the
printer names to my

Suddenly can't print: "rec_read bad magic..."
Suddenly, today, my wife's Windows 95 machine can't print to the
network printer on my Linux machine. It complains that "there was an
error printing to \\posh\lp ... There was a problem printing to the
port."
The error 1st occurred (coincidentally?) after I had upgraded the
kernel from 2.4.18 to 2.4.19. But rebooting to 2.4.18 has made no
difference.
We're running smbd

I am trying to mount a Windows share on my Linux machine at boot time.

final tests fail with samba...can anyone help?
Hello,
I just took an old PC and installed SuSE 7.0 on it. The machine has 32Mb of RAM, so I needed a slim installation and kernel, and this was the only package I could get to install without immense effort (I tried 5 other versions of small linux distros from linuxiso.org before this one).
The version of Samba I installed on this Suse box is 2.0.7. From what I have read, this version SHOULD
