Hi, Im running samba-2.0.4b. Is there a way or granting access to shares using the NT SAM (global groups)? Currently I have to add users to the unix server, then add them to a GID. I hope there is an easier way! Thanks Mark Beck

However I have some perl scripts I developed when writing a chapter for my book that might be useful. you can download the latest version from ftp.eng.auburn.edu/pub/cartegw/samba/domain_member_scripts.tar.gz Cheers, jerry ________________________________________________________________________ Gerald ( Jerry ) Carter Engineering Network Services Auburn University jerry@eng.auburn.edu http://www.eng.auburn.edu/users/cartegw "...a hundred billion castaways looking for a home." - Sting "Message in a Bottle" ( 1979 )
Here is my situation I am running RH 6.0. I need to access shares on a Windows NT Server machine. I set samba up, and I am able to see all the public shares, however I cannot see any of the shares that are restricted to specific groups. I have read a lot of the archived postings, and have tried several things with no success. in smb.conf domain groups = /etc/smbgroups in smbgroups adm "Domain Users" adm "desktop graphics" root "Domain Admins" Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated -- Jeremy D. I'm new to Samba and was hoping to setup a Samba share that can be accessed by a Nt Global group. I have added Samba to my NT 4 domain and using the username map option I have been able to conect to Samba shares, However I would like to give an NT Global group permissions to a Samba share so that the members of that Group have access to said share. Is this possible? if so can someone please steer me in the right direction. Thanks Corey Borton
Hello, My customer wishes to transfer files from NT to Unix under Samba. The problem is these files have a lot of permisions for NT groups. Do you know a way to keep these NT group permissions on Unix files without recreating groups under Unix ? Our Samba server is on Solaris 7, in the NT domain (security = domain) and not the PDC. Thanks for your answer and many thanks for your work Laurent
Hello, You could try ACL support. It's like quotas, depends on kernel support, filesystem type and so on. I've made some tests with kernel 2.4.9 and patched ext2 filesystem for ACL support and that was working normally. Look at http://acl.bestbits.at for more info. cheers Gustavo -----Original Message----- From: Blanchard Laurent [mailto:Laurent.Blanchard@t-systems.ch] Sent: quarta-feira, 3 de outubro de 2001 10:51 To: samba@samba.org Subject: NT groups Hello, My customer wishes to transfer files from NT to Unix under Samba.
