I was curious what the status of the ldap support is in 2.0.5a and where I can get more information on what characteristics this requires in the ldap database. thanks -sv

If you are interested in using and LDAP backend for a passwored database, best to read http://www.unav.es/cti/ldap-smb-howto.html Cheers, jerry ________________________________________________________________________ Gerald ( Jerry ) Carter Engineering Network Services Auburn University jerry@eng.auburn.edu http://www.eng.auburn.edu/users/cartegw "...a hundred billion castaways looking for a home." - Sting "Message in a Bottle" ( 1979 )

I have a lab of about 36 WinNT 4.0 (sp5) clients that I need control over and I was wondering if the PDC branch is good enough for use in that realm. -sv

I have a version ~1 year old that is serving about 70 NT4s4 clients been very solid for what I needed. However, it is possible to get a snapshot of the code in a buggy state like is a bad tomato from the grocery store. Test things thoroughly before going live. And remember this is devleopment code, so be prepared to work with. If you decide to run the HEAD branch code in production, I would recommend using a 2.0.x branch machine for file service. The reduces the risk of getting burned. There's a utility that (at least used to be) is available at www.sysinternals.com which picks a random SID for your computer. Since they're 64bits long, a random SID should be OK. :) -- Ben Kosse <bkosse@thecreek.com> PC Technician Coldwater Creek Inc. What's the status of LDAP support? Where can I get pre-alpha Samba 2.1? Thanks Steve Litt
Are there any benefits from using ldap to do authentication of users. Will setting ldap make management of accounts and password easier? If so where are some good site that you recommend I read. -- Damien J Dye Madwire Admin damien@madwire.co.uk
> If so where are some good site that you recommend I read.http://www.samba-tng.org/docs.html has a good linklist for reading ldap/sambe related material. I belive that there aslo was a discussion on samba-ntdom a few weeks ago on a ldap howto for samba. TH> -- > Damien J Dye > Madwire Admin > damien@madwire.co.uk
