smbclient (1.9.18p3) dies or needs killing when used for backups (via Amanda)
Has anyone noticed that there appears to be a few
problems with regards to Samba and in particular the
usage of smbclient, which can do one of the following :
1) Complete & udder death of the NT networking subsystem
(which requires a reboot to cure)
2) smbclient appears to lose its connection with the
host being contacted and eventually needs to be
killed.
I'm not too sure how

NT Groups
Hi,
Im running samba-2.0.4b.
Is there a way or granting access to shares using the NT SAM (global
groups)?
Currently I have to add users to the unix server, then add them to a GID. I
hope there is an easier way!
Thanks

quotas: documentation? Properties?
System: samba 2.0.4b on Solaris 2.x
Starting point: PC's "Properties" window on a share of home directories;

A colleague asked me yesterday whether this properties window could
display the diskspace information, using the user's UNIX quota rather than
the physical space on the disk.

Samba computer account in NT domain?
Hi!
I'm trying to set up a linux (RH5.0) samba server in our Windows NT
network. In the smb.conf file there are: security=server and the TCP/IP
number of our WINNS server. How can I create a computer account in the
NT domain? Is there any way to specify a user with the ability to add
the linux-samba-server in the NT domain in the smb.conf file?
Thanks a lot, Jukka Matinvesi

We're wanting to do user authenication through 1 of several ways.
- Through the NT server. We currently have in the conf file:
security=server
password server = (The name of our PDC)
OR
- Through a UNIX /etc/passwd

Refusing password from win95 client
This is surely in a FAQ somewhere, but I can't find it.
Latest ver. of samba on RH Linux 5.0, encrypt. passwds.
My Win95 clients were happy. Then I used poledit to turn off password
caching and now they are not happy. The problem is that they can't connect
to their home directories. Guest shares are fine, and other shares that
require passwords are fine, but when you connect to your home

NT 4 workstation login confirmed by Samba?
Hi,
How does one configure NT 4 workstation so that it will take the
username/password pair typed in by the user on the console, and pass it to
a PDC (in this case, Samba) for workstation/Domain login verification?
Further details:
The server (1.9.19, yes, I know that's alpha) is configured to be a PDC.
We have several hundred Unix accounts, for which both the username and
password are

File Corruption in NT workstation but not Win95
Hi again folks...
Just when I thought I had everything working great with samba mounts on an
AIX 4.3 machine (after a lot of testing with a Win95 box), I went to do
something quickly on a NT 4.0 workstation.
I had some intallation programs in the shared directory that I had used to
install programs on the Win95. No problem.
I ran over to my boss' NT 4.0 workstation, opened the shared
