Does this solve your problem:
fakedata <- matrix(runif(100), ncol=10)
fakedata.dist <- apply(fakedata, 2, function(x)as.vector(dist(x,
upper=TRUE, diag=TRUE)))
The columns of the resulting matrix contain the distance vectors.
