The sm package (by Adrian Bowman and Adelchi Azzalini) implements a variety of nonparametric smoothing techniques, centred on nonparametric regression for one or two covariates and density estimation for up to three variables. A new version of the package is now available on CRAN. In an earlier unannounced version (2.1), a variety of methods of bandwidth selection were added, with default settings to allow particularly simple function calls. In the new version (2.2), interactive control panels are available for the main functions (sm.regression and sm.density), using the rpanel package (which itself is based on tcltk). In addition, the rgl package is used to provide rotatable three-dimensional plots, where these are appropriate. The details of how these functions operate are available in the help files (including the help file for sm.options) and in the examples. However, the broad principle is that a control panel is activated by adding the argument panel = TRUE and an rgl plot is created by adding the argument display = "rgl" Adrian Bowman _______________________________________________ R-packages mailing list R-packages at r-project.org https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-packages
