Nonparametric k-way ANOVA
Sorry if this subject has been already dealt here. Which are some common tests for nonparametric k-way ANOVA? I have read about Kruskal-Wallis test as a kind of nonparametric one-way ANOVA, but I have not found anything about a general-setting (I mean k-way) nonparametric ANOVA. Can you recommend me a good R package (or other reliable software) for that? Looking forward to your answers, -...

New package `np' - nonparametric kernel smoothing methods for mixed datatypes
...ar R users, A new package titled `np' is now available from CRAN. The package implements recently developed kernel methods that seamlessly handle the mix of continuous, unordered, and ordered factor datatypes often found in applied settings. The package also allows users to create their own nonparametric/semiparametric routines using high-level function calls (via the function npksum()) rather than writing their own C or Fortran code. Much of the code underlying the package is written in C including the function npksum(). Currently, a range of methods can be found in the package including - multi...

Off topic: nonparametric regression
Hi All, What do you consider to be the best book(reference) on nonparametric regression? I am currently reading the book of Kunio Takezawa(2006): "Introduction to nonparametric regression". Is the book of Hardle(1990): "Applied nonparametric regression" better? or maybe another book? This is off topic, but most of the books is using R or S-plus. Than...

multivariate nonparametric test
Hi, I am doing my PhD and I usually use SPSS however now I need to do some multivariate nonparametric tests but SPSS don?t work with this. Recently I was aware of R and I saw that is possible using the MNM pack to perform multivariate nonparametric tests. I am learning step by step how to work in R meanwhile I need to perform the multivariate nonparametric tests for my PhD and I have no idea fro...

nonparametrics databank for analisys
I'm looking for data to use with nonparametrics exploration technics. I'm a undergraduate student in statistics at the Unicamp (Brazil), and i've to make a project (with orientation of a professor). I choose nonparametrics statistics to make the project. But in this project i must have to use a databank and present analisys. So, if some...

nonparametric logistic regression based on locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (lowess)
...age and lymph node metastases. http://jco.ascopubs.org/content/27/18/2931.long In statistical analysis, the authors stated "Because a nonlinear relationship between age and lymph node involvement was expected based on existing literature, lymph node involvement was also regressed on age using nonparametric logistic regression based on locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (lowess)." <http://jco.ascopubs.org/content/27/18/2931.long#ref-11> Could someone explain nonparametric logistic regression based on locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (lowess)? Or it is nonparametric regression base...

nonparametric mixed effect model
...s variable as fixed effects, plus a random effect for the paired observations. However, after making such a model with the lme function, I saw that the residuals of my model were not normally distributed and transforming them to a normal distribution does not seem to be possible. Therefore I need a nonparametric equivalent of the lme function to build a nonparametric mixed effect model. Does anyone know how I can do this? Any help would be very appreciated! -- View this message in context: http://n4.nabble.com/nonparametric-mixed-effect-model-tp1558728p1558728.html Sent from the R help mailing list archiv...

Nonparametric Effect size indices
Hello! For comparing two non-normally distributed samples, Leech (2002) suggested to report nonparametric effect size indices, such as Vargha & Delaney's A or Cliff's d. I tried to search the R-sites, but could not find related procedures or packages that include nonparametric effect sizes. Thank you for your help! Citation: Leech (2002). A call for greater use of nonparametric statistics...

need help on GAM
Get some question about the function "gam". Suppose I have a semiparametric model, Y~x1+x2+s(z1). Using "gam", how could I get the estimates for the parametric part and nonparametric part respectively? And another question: we could find the coefficients for both parametric term and nonparametric term, what do these coefficients for the nonparametric term stand for, the coefficients for the base functions? Thank you! Song **************************************************...

Non-crossing Nonparametric quantile regressions
I've been looking for ways to calculate a large number (100) of non-crossing Nonparametric quantile regressions on large populations (1000+). Can the quantreg package in R ensure the non-crossing property? If not, do you know any alternative? Nonparametric manova
Hi, I have seen a discussion in the R-help asking whether nonparametric manova has been implemented in R yet. This discussion is form March 2006 and there seemed to be no package or function implemented at the time. Has this changed? Is there a package that provides nonparametric manova as in McArdle and Anderson (2001) and Anderson (2001) now? Thanks, Daniel ----...

Nonparametric analysis of repeated measurements data with sm library
Dear all, Does anybody know how to get more evaluation points in performing Nonparametric analysis of repeated measurements data with "sm" library. The following command gives the estimation for 50 points, by I would like to increase to 100 points But I do not know how to do that. library(sm) provide.data(citrate, options=list(describe=FALSE)) provide.data(dogs, options=list(d...

Nonparametric generalization of ANOVA
...istributions. And, more general, what is the generalization of Wilcoxon's test to multi-way ANOVA with arbitrary complex model formula? What are the equivalent F statistics and t statistics in the generalization of Wilcoxon's test? Note that I'm not interested in looking for a specific nonparametric test for a particular dataset right now, although this is important in practice. What I'm interested the general nonparametric statistical framework that parallels ANOVA. Could somebody give some hints on what references I should look for? Nonparametric Tukey-type multiple comparisons "Nemenyi" test
I am trying to do a Nonparametric Tukey-type multiple comparison post-hoc test to determine which groups are significantly different. I have read the dialogue on this topic from the R-help, and am still not clear why no statistical packages include this test as an option? Is it not an appropriate test to conduct on non-normal...

Recommendations on nonparametric statistical inference textbooks
Could somebody recommend some good nonparametric statistical inference textbooks for a beginner? And what are pros and cons of each book? Nonparametric statistical methods by Hollander seems to be more difficult for a beginner, but is great as a reference, right? Are there any books that are easier to learn than Hollander's? Also, I see som...

Linear discriminant function analysis based median as group centroid and nonparametric scale estimators???
...assify defined groups. These variables will be used in a next step where location and scale estimators of the groups are important. Traditionally linear discriminant analysis is used for reclassification which uses group-means as centroid. Caused by the characteristics of my data, I decided to use nonparametric estimators, median as location and median absolute deviation as scale estimator of the groups for the final step. For this purpose I would like to know which chemical parameters are able to reclassify the defined groups around the median instead of the mean. Therefore the ?traditional linear discri...
