You need to specify a whole column. try qqnorm(table[,1])

Try this:
dat <- data.frame(x=rnorm(20), y= rnorm(20), z =rnorm(20))
par(mfrow=c(3,1))
sapply(dat, function (x) {qqnorm (x) ; qqline (x) } )
