R devel - Feb 2003 - Ruuid package

Hello ...

I would like to direct people's attention to the package "Ruuid"
on the
Biconductor website
(http://www.bioconductor.org/repository/devel/package/html/Ruuid.html).

It's purpose is to generate UUID values, and has a simple R interface
(currently one function: getuuid(), with multiple options).

Under unix, it uses Theodore Ts'o's libuuid to create and manage these
values, while on a Win32 system it uses both the Win32 API and a subset of
the libuuid.

A S4 class was created to manage the UUID values in R.

Please let me know if you encounter any difficulty with this package.

Sorry for the self-followup, but just a clarification ...

For those that are not familiar, a UUID is a "Universally Unique ID",
a value generated that is guaranteed unique until the year 3400.  The
algorithm uses the machine's MAC address/Token ID, the current time and
random seeds and generates a 128 bit value.  For those familiar with
GUID's, these are the same thing.
