Ruuid missing Gtk glib.dylib
Hi,
I get an error indicating a missing library from the package 'Ruuid'.
I suppose this means I should install RGtk. I just thought I'd
document the error. Maybe a dependency entry is missing?

Ruuid package
Hello ...
I would like to direct people's attention to the package "Ruuid" on the
Biconductor website
(http://www.bioconductor.org/repository/devel/package/html/Ruuid.html).
It's purpose is to generate UUID values, and has a simple R interface
(currently one function: getuuid(), with multiple options).
Under unix, it uses Theodore Ts'o's libuuid to cre...

...bvolumes shall be

far missing items from the root_item like the received UUID, all
generation values and all time values.
The parameters to the "--fields" option is a list of items to print:

I conclude that I need not require() a package that I've listed in

that has Ruuid in Depends. If I also have SaveImage: Yes, then R CMD

this:

S4 classes and C
Is there any good source of information on how S4 classes (and methods)
work from C?
E.g., for reading
how to read a slot value
how to invoke a method
how to test if you have an s4 object
For writing, how to make a new instance of an S4 object.
I've found scattered hints in the archive, including a link to a talk on
this subject "I am using C code to create an S4 object based on

accesing slots of S4 class in C code
I am trying to use a custom S4 object in my C code and I cannot get the
access to its slots working.
The following is a toy example, but even this crashes.
In R I have:
setClass("pd", representation(data="numeric"))
x <- new("pd", data=1:5)
test <- function(pd.obj) {
res <- .C("TestFun", pd.obj)
res}

algorithm to create unique identifiers
Hi all,
I am trying to create a unique identifier for each row, combining numbers from three columns.
Do you know if there is a general formula to do this (or some manual where I can read about this)?
I figure I can use the numeric entries of the columns as "coordinates" and multiply them with different coefficients (different magnitudes) to get the unique ID - but it would be nice to

R 2.4.0 pre-release in unstable may break some packages
Hi all,
Today's apt-get update should bring the first R 2.4.0 snapshot packages. As
with previous releases, I intend to renew the packages every week until the
release of 2.4.0 by R Core that is scheduled for October 3. That way, R
2.3.1-3 will remain the version in testing.
As you may have seen on the r-devel list, 2.4.0 will require that packages
using S4 classes and the methods package

New unique name
In some languages there is a function
gensym()
which returns a new unique name (in the current environment).
This is quite helpful when one has to do temporary assignments.
I could not find such a function in R.
Is there one?
