I installed recently Yellow Dog Linux 6 on the PS3. It's trivial to
install, since Terra Soft is in the business of selling PS3 clusters
with YDL pre-installed, so they take care to make it as easy as possible
for the user.
It comes with the Cell SDK included, if you select the Development
Packages group while doing the install. It has a non-trivial-sized
community of users running YDL on PS3 (and other Cell- and PPC-based
devices).

It is very compatible with FC6 or CentOS5 for PPC, to the point where
you can actually enable PPC yum repositories for those distros in YDL6
and it works fine. I forgot which one I enabled, I think it's either
Fedora Extras or EPEL, and pulled packages via yum and had no issues.
I suspect YDL6 is actually a PPC rebuild of RH5, with some tweaks, but
I'm not sure.
So yeah, I would normally use CentOS, but after comparing several
distros for the PS3, YDL came up as the no-brainer choice.
