PSTN/phone/FXO/FXS cabling issue
...he Wiki, there's good information
about T1 cabling and whatnot, but not much about analog lines.
I could make my own cables, but i don't know how to connect the larger
Ethernet-style connector to the smaller analog-style one (which pins go
to which?).
Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

SATA RAID card recommendation?
...ndividual drive
via a script (ideally run from cron)
- works with very large SATA drives
Nice to have features but not mandatory:
- small battery to keep the array alive until the write buffers are
flushed after a power loss
Anyone having positive experience with SATA RAID, please comment.

rolling your own kernel - guidelines?
...n order to avoid any possible nasty consequences?
Would you import the config file from the original CentOS5 kernel into
the new kernel, and let the kernel deal with the differences? I.e. have
the old configuration as some sort of baseline that can be further tweaked.
Or some other strategy?

What are the guidelines, what should i do to ensure i won't get spanked

More precisely, what config bits must be put in place to make sure
there's always an easy way, with Asterisk, to tap into arbitrary calls?

...ilding an IPSec VPN "server"
(concentrator, whatever) on CentOS 7, that will do site-to-site
connections with Cisco hardware at the other end? Is any of the *swan
apps still considered the best option for that?
Any guidelines w.r.t. IPSec VPN in general on this platform?
Thanks.

slow Perl on CentOS 5
...pps are unusually slow on CentOS 5, have a look at this blog:

In a nutshell: some Perl apps are 100x slower on RedHat / CentOS 5
compared to other distributions.

print something on console after boot
...?
I've a virtual instance and I need to know its IP address after it has
finished booting up, to know where to ssh into it. I've tried adding "ip
-4 addr > /dev/tty0" to rc.local, but that obviously doesn't work,
because the login prompt overwrites everything I do.

constraint optimization: solving large scale general nonlinear problems

case. I need to solve this problem with over 300 variables. In this case
Rdonlp2 is very very slowly. I know that in Matlab exists Knitro
(http://www.ziena.com/knitro.htm.) for large optimization problems.
It will be great if you can suggest me some alternatives solutions.
Thanks in advance,

Dell OpenManage
Hi Everyone,
I have a Xen host (Xen 3.4.2) which is running CentOS 5.5 Dom0. I wish to install Dell OpenManage to get a nice web interface with hardware status.
Do I need to do anything special to get this working on a Xen host? Or does it work out of the box? The reason why I''m asking, instead of trying, is that my server is currently on its way to a colo, and I won''t have

Matrix decomposition: orthogonal complement
...can compute in R the orthogonal complement of one matrix?
If A (n x m ) matrix of full column rank (n>m), its orthogonal
complement is denoted by A_ .
A_ is n X (n-m) matrix of full column rank and such that A'A_=0.
I need to compute A_. How I can compute A_ in R?
Best Regards,

video calls - Windows / Linux interoperability ?
...ux clients to be interoperable.
On Linux, it looks like Ekiga is a good candidate. But how about Windows?
Anyone using Kapanga in an Asterisk network that includes Ekiga? Are
these two interoperable?
I'm not necessarily looking for open source software, free for personal
use is enough.

Entirely replacing the existing PBX with Asterisk is probably out of

This is puzzling. I thought that setting would only influence SSL
connections. But apparently it also affects plaintext logins from

Is there a way to require a cert from the iPhone TLS connections on port
993, but do not require it from clients connecting to port 143?

glusterfs-server package: what happened to it?
...documents online suggest
to install the glusterfs-package as if it was available directly in the

Unless I'm wrong, it appears that this package is not in the repo for
CentOS 6. Does anyone know what happened to it?
