I saw several threads requesting an Asterisk forum to complement the email list. i.e. http://lists.digium.com/pipermail/asterisk-dev/2004-February/003103.html I recently created an Asterisk forum within TMC's popular VoIP forums for everyone to use. http://voip-forum.tmcnet.com/voip-forum/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=15 <http://voip-forum.tmcnet.com/voip-forum/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=15> Google has this forum ranked #2 for keyword "asterisk forum", so it should draw plenty of traffic. It doesn't require registration to post, so you can start posting right away. Though registration allows for post notification. Let me know if you have any feature suggestions and I'll try and add them. For me 2) is "kill files, filtering, ignore lists, and folders" -- Eric Wieling * BTEL Consulting * 504-899-1387 x2111 "In a related story, the IRS has recently ruled that the cost of Windows upgrades can NOT be deducted as a gambling loss."
Yet another forum seems quite unnecessary to me, but I added a post there referring people to the Wiki. I agree, the Wiki is Step #1 for any Asterisk user. The Wiki is a great reference, but you will always have people who need help. As much as us "techies" and Linux-gurus love to say READ-THE-F-in-Manual (RTFM), we shouldn't "shun" people away from asking for help via a forum. A reference guide or any documentation will never be 100% complete. The Wiki and any forum are two different animals. In my opinion, you'll never answer every single question in the Wiki. If you tried, it would probably become too unwieldy at that point or too long for any sane person to read it all. As much as we gripe about it, it's human nature to want to ask for help rather than spending time to find the answer themselves. I'm sure we all have used some sort of technical forum to ask a question at some point, and had our problem solved, so forums do have some value. -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of Scott Stingel Sent: Friday, September 17, 2004 1:39 PM To: 'Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion' Subject: RE: [Asterisk-Users] Asterisk forum created Yet another forum seems quite unnecessary to me, but I added a post there referring people to the Wiki. Granted, IRC is a dark art that has been mostly eclipsed by IM clients but it is very well suited to real time discussions of problems... That said, does anyone maintain a Googleable log of #asterisk? Kris Boutilier Information Systems Coordinator Sunshine Coast Regional District
