Using glitz directly vs using XRender
Hi,
In the past I've found that using the glitz backend to Cairo with Xorg
made some simple animation tests I wrote go much faster. I haven't yet
tried them with Xgl but I was wondering which backend is theoretically
'best' in this configuration?
My understanding is that Xgl feeds everything drawn to the screen via
OpenGL - a bi...

XGL and Xorg confusion
...ead of displaying its results on a
monitor, it interprets the display and calls the appropriate OpenGL APIs;
the OpenGL driver physically interacts with the screen, keyboard and mouse.
So you do need a XServer with driver support for OpenGL acceleration to use
Xgl with composite window managers via glitz and glitz-glx.
AIGLX on the other hand does not require a separate server like Xgl. AIGLX
uses indirect rendering. The commands are first sent to X which then
redirects them to the GPU via the drivers. To support AIGLX the driver needs
to support GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap as well as Composite in...

Asterisk forum created
I saw several threads requesting an Asterisk forum to complement the
email list. i.e.
http://lists.digium.com/pipermail/asterisk-dev/2004-February/003103.html
I recently created an Asterisk forum within TMC's popular VoIP forums
for everyone to use.

rotate → auto-search windows
Hi.
My window list is set to show apps form all workspaces, since I just use
workspaces to keep my screen uncluttered but want to always keep track
of open apps.
As a result, I'm always switching from one viewport to another. What I
would like is a key in the rotate plugin so that if you activate it,
when every window in a workspace is closed the cube will automatically
rotate to the last

g-w-d.c -> my head spins
...he _shadow_quads only used in a
function that is not called before a theme/style is changed? Has every
window its own cairo-context? Furthermore there's no GL involved in
drawing the shadows/decorations. Am I correct to assume that GL is only
implicitly used via cairo, which is rendered through glitz in compiz'
case? Unfortunately the list goes on. I should have looked this deep
into g-w-d.c _before_ assuming I could add tweakable shadows to it. I'm
currently looking like a jackass and feel just dumb for not really
comprehending the code :/
Best regards...

whatever happend to unobtrusive javascript in Rails ?
...emendous real-life benefits and
in some cases they even become necessities. There''s also a more
metaphysical aspect - if you will - the immense satisfaction of
looking at squeaky clean xhtml source, yet "invisibly" enhanced by
advanced DOM-scripting functionality and AJAX glitz. I understand
that i''m not required to use JS helpers in Rails but i feel i would
miss out on a great deal of very productive features if i decided to
implement all this manually for the sake of progressive enhancement.
Also, it strikes me as something that could prolly be fixed rat...

Plugin Library Interface
Hi,
some of you might noticed that there was recently some discussion on
the Beryl ML about an interface which provides sharing functions and
allows us to do library plugins. One example for this kind of plugins
is text, which was recently ported to that system. I now want to
explain here how it works in general.
Core does save the shared library functions in a CompLibraryFunction struct:

questions
Hello,
I have some questions about the library.
First, I would like to be able to get how many frames in a movie, skip to a
given frame, and render one selected frame. Looking at the API, I see that
there are functions for this in swfdec_sprite_movie.h. But I don't see how I
can get to those functions starting from a swfdec_player.
Second, there are some movies that are collections of

they let you do it in a lack-lustre explorer-like

what shall I say? It would be ideal for samba to

printer installation and then dole it out on deman...

www.r-project.org
Dear R users and developpers,
My question is adressed to both of you, so I choose R-help to post it.
Are there any plans to jazz up the main R website : http://www.r-project.org
The look it have now is the same for a long time and kind of sad
compared to other statistical package's website. Of course, the
comparison is not fair, since companies are paying web designers to draw

I need a second opinion on a new phone system deployment
Howdy All,
They say opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one. (that's
the "clean" version of the saying). So I'm asking for yours. I hope you
see it as a fun exercise.
I'm designing a phone system from the ground up. Will be about 1000-1300
seats mixed 80/20 VoIP/Analog. 58-acre campus environment with 23
buildings. Userbase is emergency services
