First question: Do you need to use a special phone to use SIP? My setup is X100P and TDM10B (I have 2 computers with the same setup), will I be able to use SIP? I already have the two computers calling each other using IAX, but I would like to see if I can get them to work using SIP. My current setup: On computer 192.168.10.50 **sip.conf*** [general] port=5060 bindaddr=0.0.0.0 context=default allow=gsm register=>comp1:mysecret@192.168.10.51 [comp2] type=friend username=comp2 secret=bigsecret host=192.168.10.51 **extensions.conf*** [general] static=yes writeprotect=no [default] exten=>_221,1,Dial,SIP/comp2 -================On computer 192.168.10.51 **sip.conf*** [general] port=5060 bindaddr=0.0.0.0 context=default allow=gsm register=>comp2:bigsecret@192.168.10.50 [comp1] type=friend username=comp1 secret=mysecret host=192.168.10.50 **extensions.conf*** [general] static=yes writeprotect=no [default] exten=>_220,1,Dial,SIP/comp1 ============================= Any help will be appreciated. >First question: Do you need to use a special phone to use SIP? My >setup is X100P and TDM10B (I have 2 computers with the same setup), >will I be able to use SIP?SIP is a protocol that works exclusively over IP. You will need a "hardphone" like the Cisco 7960, Cisco ATA-186, Snom 100, or a softphone like the www.xten.com, Microsoft Messenger (with SIP support) and others. You can, of course, get two Asterisk servers to communicate to each other with SIP instead of IAX, but that's probably non-optimal in a very basic configuration. Then each Asterisk server can send the calls wherever (to your Zap lines, or whatever other channels you want.) It is my experience that most often people have SIP hardphones, which communicate to a local Asterisk server, which then in turn routes calls to either remote Asterisk servers and their downstream phones, or to PSTN lines (X100P, T100P) via a hardware interface.>I already have the two computers calling each other using IAX, but I >would like to see if I can get them to work using SIP. > >My current setup:[snip] JT
So basically, it's impossible to make a call using an analog phone and SIP? _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
I have T100P & channelbank that work outgoing calls just fine. Zap/1 is a line that I connect the office phone system into my * system. You can pick up line 4 on office system and call 500 to get Mark @ Digium, get into conferences, leave/retrieve voicemail, but I can not get Zap/1 to have a phone "Ring". If I plug a regular phone into it and place a call from another extention to Zap/1 it never rings on the phone, but if you had ESP and knew someone was calling and picked up the phone, they are there. In other words. The call goes through, but it never rings the Device. BTW, thanks for a great project/product Mark. Tim Thompson
let me guess - you have a zhone channel bank ? check the model is it S or S/O ? if it is the O model channels 1-8 are FXO, plug phones in 9 and up. Nope. ok, (assuming you have your cross connects and signalling setup right in the bank - ie T1 ds0-1 connected to the first fxs interface) say you ring out on zap1, phone plugged into the first fxs interface does nothing, however try picking it up anyway, are you connected to the asterisk channel at that point ? if so you likely have a bad ring generator. Actually, it could be something else. I thought that I had CAC I FXS channels bank when I actually had a strange format called TR-80 / SLC-96 (subscriber loop carrier). Some AT&T format. The only difference is the BIOS for the T1 framing and the BIOS for the cards. The TR-80 is a different T1 framing from ESF. If you pull out one of your "FXS" cards and read the BIOS. It should say "FXS..." and not "SLC v1.2" This same problem happened to me. The ringer works just fine, it just is not compatible with *. I wonder how hard it would be to make * compatible with TR-80 framing and SLC-96?
