Dear R-help, I was able to build R-1.5.0 on WinNT w/o problem (actually it seems easier than previous version). However, I encountered problem when trying to compile the recommended package foreign: make: Entering directory `/cygdrive/g/rbuild/R-1.5.0/src/gnuwin32' make DLLNM= FLIBS="-lg2c -lRblas" BUILD=MINGW \ -C G:/Rbuild/R-1.5.0-recommended/R.INSTALL/foreign PKG=foreign RHOME=g:/rbuild /R-1.5.0 RLIB=g:/rbuild/R-1.5.0/library \ -f g:/rbuild/R-1.5.0/src/gnuwin32/MakePkg make[1]: Entering directory `/cygdrive/g/Rbuild/R-1.5.0-recommended/R.INSTALL/fo reign' ---------- Making package foreign ------------ configure.win: not found make[1]: *** [g:/rbuild/R-1.5.0/library/foreign/zzzz] Error 127 make[1]: Leaving directory `/cygdrive/g/Rbuild/R-1.5.0-recommended/R.INSTALL/for eign' make: *** [pkg-foreign] Error 2 make: Leaving directory `/cygdrive/g/rbuild/R-1.5.0/src/gnuwin32' *** Installation of foreign failed *** Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? configure.win is there, and all it does is copying two files in src from .h.in to .h. [R] R-1.5.0: compiling package foreign on WinNT failed
My best guess is that you don't have `.' in your path. That is a new instruction for 1.5.0 (see the INSTALL file). People building this themselves need to be aware that lots of packages need to be rebuilt for rw1050. I will not update CRAN contrib area until binaries are released: until then see the rw1050 directory. Even then, update.packages() will not pull rebuilt versions, only updated packages. Thanks very much to Prof. Ripley and Tom Stockton. Yes, adding `.' to PATH solved the problem. It is mentioned in INSTALL in *two* places. Apologies for not reading it carefully. In addition, Prof. Ripley suggests: =======================Replacing in MakePkg sh -c configure.win by sh ${SPKG}/configure.win seems to work even if . is not in the path. ======================= Thanks again, Andy> -----Original Message----- > From: ripley at stats.ox.ac.uk [mailto:ripley at stats.ox.ac.uk] > Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2002 3:12 AM > To: Liaw, Andy > Cc: 'R-help at stat.math.ethz.ch' > Subject: Re: [R] R-1.5.0: compiling package foreign on WinNT failed > > > My best guess is that you don't have `.' in your path.
