Discuss Your Rails Hosting here, with rates & experience
Hi to all, I have seen many threads here that talks a bit on Hosting scenario and keeps the matter hanging and discussions gets truncated without any outcome. It would be nice to have a serious thread like this, where we can discuss few things as follows... (1) Your Rails Hosting Company (2) Your experience with that Hosting Company (3) Your currently plan and Your Rates (4) Helping / Neglecting attitude of the Hosting Company (5) Since How long you are Hosting with your particular host. (6) Which of the Hosting companies you tried and left them for whatever reason. (7) Are you using VPS or Shared Hosting. Mod_Rails or others... (8) Many other points as suggested by others.... A Fix thread that covers majority of questions, would be quite helpful. One can easily find a fix solution as well as Plus point/drawback of hosting companies. Its really sad to see many members keeps on loosing money trying different hosting companies, without proper guidance. A Single thread will be helpful finding many solutions rather than the same topic getting discussed everywhere. I request you all, to post your hosting related questions and experience here, rather than spreading it everywhere, which does not end you with any particular solution. Thanking you. Why not have another group for this, then it would not get lost in the usenet archives... Hi, It would be nice to know, which hosting companies are preferred by developers and at what price, plus the satisfaction level. I am not sure, if Passenger is already established with Apache and working as fast as php currently. Pl. share your experiences, this hosting scenario is the most difficult subject to deal with, without proper information. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. It seems like some people just don''t know about that search field in the top right corner of every browser window. The same names keep popping back up time and time again: slicehost, rimuhosting (we are hosting with them both on vps and dedicated server and are extremely happy), planet argon, … A quick google search came up with tons of reviews and experiences, just a couple of results: http://www.softiesonrails.com/2008/2/22/where-i-host-my-rails-applications http://joshhuckabee.com/web-hosting-review-slicehost http://www.lukeredpath.co.uk/2007/9/2/rimuhosting-singing-their-praises http://nubyonrails.com/articles/the-host-with-the-most http://earthcode.com/blog/2008/02/cheap_rails_vps_options.html and the list goes on. Hell, my google search even brought up several threads from the past where I participated in and told more or less the same I''m saying now. Re: Discuss Your Rails Hosting here, with rates & experience
The problem is that you seek the "one true way" of Rails hosting. The "one true way" is a million ways. Each must discover the host that is best on our own, using the wisdom in those "truncated discussions" as a guide. A ranked list of hosts would be almost meaningless. The equation can''t be solved without including your needs and preferences. Patience and perseverance, grasshopper. There are many excellent Rails hosts. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. I''m currently using The Planet, but be warned, per their SLA, they don''t compensate you for downtime when their upstream "has issues". I lost 3 days a couple of months back and they did nothing about it, they very much acted like compensating clients for downtime was something new to them. OSC Solutions was the best I ever found in a shared setup scenario. They actually use Rails and are generally very knowledgable about best practices and helping you get your app online if you''re new.> I am not sure, if Passenger is already established with Apache and > working as fast as php currently.I haven''t benched it against PHP, but I did bench it against Mongrel and it''s slightly faster. It works great for me on 32-bit, but has some issues a new 64-bit machine. I filed a couple of bug reports and am waiting to see what becomes of them. It was suggested I continue to use Mongrel until it can be worked out, which is no problem really. -- Greg Donald http://destiney.com/ --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group.
