samba - Aug 2002 - Where do /var/log/samba/* get there name from?

Hello all.

I can't access our samba server, "path not found".
There is a log file with the wrong name:
merlin.system.lan,     instead of:
merlin.systematic.lan,
which file would this error stem from?  I've looked in all the /etc/hosts*
files and /etc/samba/lmhosts.
