Roaming profiles problem
Hey all, I've got a few WinXP workstations logging into a 2.2.4pre (CVS from April 30th, around 8 p.m. PDT) PDC, and I'm having some sort of odd problem with roaming profiles. The XP workstations can successfully (it seems) retrieve and save thier profiles to the samba box; however, if I log off a user, say "gary", from one workstation, and travel to the next one, and log in

My Documents folder and roaming profiles.
Hi All, I don't know whether here is the right place to ask as this question is probably more Windows related than Samba related but I thought someone here might have some ideas. I've got a Samba 2.2.5 PDC (running on FreeBSD but that doesn't really matter) serving Windows XP machines. The roaming profiles are set to be stored in a different share to the users home directory so

Applying a Patch.
Hello all. I sent a message to Jerry and the list, I see it didn't appear, must have made an error. Maybe that's good, I shouldn't hassle Jerry about minor stuff. I've never applied a patch. What does it entail, I'm sure being a rocket scientist isn't part of it? I been to the site and seen the patches, they look like scripts that can be run, is this the case? How?

Where do /var/log/samba/* get there name from?
...ss our samba server, "path not found". There is a log file with the wrong name: merlin.system.lan, instead of: merlin.systematic.lan, which file would this error stem from? I've looked in all the /etc/hosts* files and /etc/samba/lmhosts. Thanks Trevor. ========================= Stussy said:"Knowledge is King! =========================

A good day to you all. i dont seemt to be having any luck joining Windows XP machines into my domain. This i find quite peculiar, since i have had no problems with win98, winnt, or win2k machines. The Windows XP machine is able to see the domain, and reports that it has joined the domain after i enter the domain admin account and password. But after the reboot, i can't seem to log on

Following the "security = domain in Samba 2.x" document in the SWAT documentation page I do this: root@pc194-79:/usr/local/samba/bin# smbpasswd -j MDU -r pv-mdu-server1 -Ujohnm%xxxxxxxx Joined domain MDU. root@pc194-79:/usr/local/samba/bin# This is in [globals]: security = DOMAIN encrypt passwords = Yes password server = pv-mdu-server1 pv-mdu-server2 And now I start Samba via smbd

ACL support?
Is it still true that in order for a Linux hosted Samba server to have NT ACL support, the Linux box must have an ACL aware file system such as XFS or Andreas Gruenbacher's kernel patch ("POSIX ACL")? I read this in chapter 4 of "Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours". In the time since that book was written, has an easier method been developed, or has a
