samba - Mar 2002 - How do you run swat in forground mode?

Is there any way to run swat from the command line instead of starting it
from inetd? I'm trying to add some features (mostly, I want to make a
backup of the smb.conf file before commiting a new one) and I want to run
swat from inside of gdb. Is there a way to start swat in the foreground and
have it listen on port 901?

I haven't seen any replies. I think SWAT has to be run with inetd.
