How does samba handle multiple group file entries of the same name?
Hello all, I have ran into the following problem running samba 2.2.2 on a SUN running Solaris 7. Sun has a limitation on the length of a line for a group entry in the /etc/group file of 512 characters. Sun also has no plans to fix this problem. It turns out that Compaq Tru64 has the same problem. Sun and Compaq's solution is to create multiple entries in the group file when a group line

SWAT conflicts w/ Apache 1.3 HTTP server???
Hello, I am running a small network, Win., FreeBSD (Unix), & Macs., administering through SWAT. Needing to run an intranet I installed an Apache 1.3 HTTP server running in standalone mode. Now I have lost the ability to access SWAT through the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:901 port. Guess it requires some special configuration of the server - SWAT runs in inetd mode, will this cause a conflict?

Samba 2.2.5 - Swat Died
I upgraded this morning to 2.2.5 on both my Linux boxes (Red Hat 7.3) and now SWAT doesn't work. I have it setup to start on a reboot and I've tried force turning it off and then turning it back on. I can't even connect on the actual Linux box, let alone the Windows machines that I used to be able to connect with. I get that the connection was 'broken' for port 901. What can I

Seperating Forground from Background
One thing I have noticed when encoding VCDs is that often videos with complex backgrounds don't compress nearly as well as those with simple ones. Part of the problem is that TV cameras seam to have the focus so that the entire image is clear rather than focusing on the foreground (and blurring the backgrounds). The result is that a good number of bits are wasted trying to perfectly

Help with SWAT
Hello all, I just installed 3.0.24 in AIX5.3 using installp binaries. The install went well, and I can connect to shared directories from Windows. When I try to log in to the SWAT tool, it does not accept the password of any userid that I try with, including root. I don't recall having to do anything special to use SWAT on my older servers running SAMBA 2.2.8. I have added the following
