I am informed that it is possible to load iTunes in Wine using Ubuntu 9.04 but am experiencing problems. In Ubuntu I downloaded the Wine package via Synaptic which duly displayed in my applications menu. Having achieved that I then loaded iTunes the version for XP and Vista. When I attempt to open the iTunes it is then that I hit problems. The iTunes .exe file is now on my desktop. On opening the C drive in Wine there are two folders none of which seem to meet my needs so I copied the iTunes over to it. Attempting to open this ended up with an error message: "[/home/ian/Desktop/iTunesSetup.exe] End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/ian/Desktop/iTunesSetup.exe or /home/ian/Desktop/iTunesSetup.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/ian/Desktop/iTunesSetup.exe.ZIP, period." Obviously I am getting things wrong somewhere. Can you please advise me where I am going wrong? Thanking you in anticipation

Use 'wine iTunesSetup.exe' instead. -- -Austin
austin987 Many thanks for your reply. According to my system I am downloading Wine 1.1.28 WineHQ-Ubuntu 9.04. I also link to Wine-Gecko 1.0.0.-0 Ubuntu. I managed to open iTunes only to be informed that it did not download properly. As I have to be somewhere else within the next half hour I will have to go around again with the download. Will see what develops and get back to you Once again thanks vm
I tried again to load iTunes only to be informed : "Itunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall iTunes." Strangely enough it will accept a CD and it will play but when it displays the tracks they are not in sequence. The column where tracks are normally numbered is empty so I am unable to properly sort in sequence or link the tracks. It is looking very much like it am going to be stuck with using XP against my wishes unless anyone knows better
So far no matter what I try I still am unable to load iTunes. I have the following : Asus Laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 ? 2.6.28-15 i686 Intel Dual Core T2390 1.86Ghz; Intel GMA x 3100 graphics, 1GB RAM. and have been attempting to download iTunes via Wine using version 1.1.28. Having looked at the database iTunes 8.2 is shown on the top 10 silver list and is stated as running OK. I however have attempted to load iTunes without it working. I keep being informed initially that it downloaded but then receive the following error message : "Itunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall iTunes." obviously I am going somewhere wrong but am too new to Ubuntu and Wine to know where. I have tried both offerings of the iTunes download but in each instance I get the error. I am keen to see if I can get iTunes to work but keep getting frustrated. Can someone please offer instruction in this matter ?
