[zfs-discuss] Any fix for zpool import kernel panic (reboot loop)?
My system (a laptop with ZFS root and boot, SNV 64A) on which I was trying Opensolaris now has the zpool-related kernel panic reboot loop. Booting into failsafe mode or another solaris installation and attempting: ''zpool import -F rootpool'' results in a kernel panic and reboot. A search shows this type of kernel panic has been discussed on this forum over the last year. Apparently zfs panicking on a failed write to a non-redundant pool is a known issue to be addressed (although I''m not sure if the panic I''m seeing is due to a failed write). Does anyone know about progress on this issue? I feel this should have more prominence on the ZFS pages as a known bug. (Looks like apple made a good call in only going with read-only Zfs for leopard, it''s very very promising but not yet ready for prime time). This message posted from opensolaris.org

Hi Rodney, I have been using zfs root/boot for few months without any problem. I can also import the pool from other environment. Do you have problem importing the zfs boot pool only ? or you can''s use the zfs boot at all ? Rgds, Andre W. Hi, your pool could be corrupted. It was created with SNV_64? Can you post the kernel panic you are getting? gino This message posted from opensolaris.org

Prior to booting from my jumpstart server and disabling zpool.cache, the machine was stuck in a panic loop. A support call is open and it is a known problem that (I''m told) is being worked on. I only mention this to say that this type of problem is not restricted to zfs boot. Mike -- Mike Gerdts http://mgerdts.blogspot.com/
