I assume that a zvol has a vtoc. What tags are supported? Thanks, Brian -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://mail.opensolaris.org/pipermail/zfs-discuss/attachments/20070427/57e1a64f/attachment.html>
> I assume that a zvol has a vtoc. What tags are supported? The VTOC on a solaris disk is managed by the disk driver. Since there''s no disk driver managing the zvol, there''s no VTOC (unless you put one one there yourself). Conceptually it''s very similar to a SVM metadevice. How would you want to use tags on a zvol? They''re almost completely unused by the system anyway. Presumably a zvol (and other zfs objects) could have a property that served the same purpose. -- Darren Dunham ddunham at taos.com Senior Technical Consultant TAOS http://www.taos.com/ Got some Dr Pepper? Certain file systems require devices with specific tags. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that I can use a Zvol for any filesystem. I don''t know of any. The only things that I''m aware of using tags on Solaris today are some portion of the Solaris installer that looks for ''root'' tags to find an upgradeable root filesystem on a disk, and VxVM uses tags to find VxVM public and private regions. I don''t know any reason you''d have problems putting a filesystem on a zvol (or a SVM metadevice, or a VxVM volume, ...). No tags required. -- Darren Dunham ddunham at taos.com Senior Technical Consultant TAOS http://www.taos.com/ Got some Dr Pepper? AMASS-FS cache disks need to have the tags changed from the default. (I seem to remember another FS, back in the day, requiring this, bu I can''t recall which one.). -Brian On 4/28/07, Darren Dunham <ddunham at taos.com> wrote:> > > Certain file systems require devices with specific tags.
