using veritas dmp with ZFS (but not vxvm)
We have some HDS storage that isn''t supported by mpxio, so we have to use veritas dmp to get multipathing. Whats the recommended way to use DMP storage with ZFS. I want to use DMP but get at the multipathed virtual luns at as low a level as possible to avoid using vxvm as much as possible. I figure theres no point in having overhead from 2 volume manages if we can avoid it. Has anyone

The ZFS MOS and how DNODES are stored
ZFS documentation lists snapshot limits on any single file system in a pool at 2**48 snaps, and that seems to logically imply that a snap on a file system does not require an update to the pool?s currently active uberblock. That is to say, that if we take a snapshot of a file system in a pool, and then make any changes to that file system, the copy on write behavior induced by the changes will

do we support zonepath on UFS formated ZFS volume
Hi, ZFS experts, From ZFS release notes, " Solaris 10 6/06 and Solaris 10 11/06: Do Not Place the Root File Systemof a Non-Global Zone on ZFS. The zonepath of a non-global zone should not reside on ZFS for this release. This action might result in patching problems and possibly prevent the system from being upgraded to a later Solaris 10 update release." So my question is, do we

The PXE version string reads: Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (Build 082) I've searched the SYSLINUX mailing list archives, and have found reports of similar problems with PXELINUX version 2.0, but I could not find any resolution. ZFS questions
I will have a file system in a SAN using ZFS. Can someone answer my questions? 1. Can I create ZFS volumes on a ZFS file system from one server, attach the file system read-write to a different server (to load data), then detach the file system from that server and attach the file system read-only to multiple other servers? 2. Can I expand on the fly a ZFS volume within a file

Proposal expand raidz
Greetings Have used zfs raidz for while and question rised is it possible to expand raidz with additional disks. Got answer pool yes but raidz "group" no. So very high level idea for you , maybe already know. And i''m not detail level expert of zfs so here might be "trivial" things for you. So could add operation enhanced so that it allow to add additional

Scrubbing a zpool built on LUNs
I''m building a system with two Apple RAIDs attached. I have hardware RAID5 configured so no RAIDZ or RAIDZ2, just a basic zpool pointing at the four LUNs representing the four RAID controllers. For on-going maintenance, will a zpool scrub be of any benefit? From what I''ve read with this layer of abstration ZFS is only maintaining the metadata and not the actual data on the

6 disk raidz2 or 3 stripe 2 way mirror
I''m playing around with ZFS and want to figure out the best use of my 6x 300GB SATA drives. The purpose of the drives is to store all of my data at home (video, photos, music, etc). I''m debating between: 6x 300GB disks in a single raidz2 pool --or-- 2x (3x 300GB disks in a pool) mirrored I''ve read up a lot on ZFS, but I can''t really figure out which is

Mixing RAIDZ and RAIDZ2 zvols in the same zpool
I have a customer who has implemented the following layout: As you can see, he has mostly raidz zvols but has one raidz2 in the same zpool. What are the implications here? Is this a bad thing to do? Please elaborate. Thanks, Scott Gaspard Scott.J.Gaspard at Sun.COM > NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM > > chipool1 ONLINE 0 0 0 > >

import zfs dataset online in a zone
Hello, is there a way to add a zfs dataset to a zone online? The only info I found is to configure the dataset in the zone via zonecfg then reboot the zone. I would like to be able to add new separated dataset for each new db''s I add in the zone and of course if I need to reboot the zone every time I have to add/remove a db, my users will not be very happy... The only option I found

drive displayed multiple times
So I just imported an old zpool onto this new system. The problem would be one drive (c4d0) is showing up twice. First it''s displayed as ONLINE, then it''s displayed as "UNAVAIL". This is obviously causing a problem as the zpool now thinks it''s in a degraded state, even though all drives are there, and all are online. This pool should have 7 drives total,

Poor man''s backup by attaching/detaching mirror drives on a _striped_ pool?
Hi, one quick&dirty way of backing up a pool that is a mirror of two devices is to zpool attach a third one, wait for the resilvering to finish, then zpool detach it again. The third device then can be used as a poor man''s simple backup. Has anybody tried it yet with a striped mirror? What if the pool is composed out of two mirrors? Can I attach devices to both mirrors, let them

Solaris 10 / ZFS file system major/minor number
Hi, In migrating from **VM to ZFS am I going to have an issue with Major/Minor numbers with NFS mounts? Take the following scenario. 1. NFS clients are connected to an active NFS server that has SAN shared storage between the active and standby nodes in a cluster. 2. The NFS clients are using the major/minor numbers on the active node in the cluster to communicate to the NFS active server. 3.

I have tried searching the list but could not get understand the structure of how ZFS actually takes snapshot space into account. ZFS, home and Linux
Hello, I''m trying to implement a NAS server with solaris/NFS and, of course, ZFS. But for that, we have a little problem... what about the /home filesystem? I mean, i have a lot of linux clients, and the "/home" directory is on a NFS server (today, linux). I want to use ZFS, and change the "directory" home like /home/leal, to "filesystems" like /home/leal
