[Xen-users] xen4 kernel crash 2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 poweredge R710 w/ s
Hi list! First of all sorry for breaking the thread, but I wasn''t subscribed when the orignal messages were posted. I''m continuing this message http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2010-11/msg00166.html I''m 100% sure that a fresh install of Squeeze (as of last week) with Xen 4.0.1 and Debian''s -xen-amd64 kernel results in an early reboot on a Dell R710. I haven''t captured any logs about the crash so I''m not sure if it has something to do with this. I''m hoping to do this tomorrow.> On Sun, Nov 07, 2010 at 12:07:53PM +0100, Alexander Bienzeisler wrote: > > Hey Oliver, > > > > booting without the memory option crashes earlier without info > > > > This sounds like you need a dom0 kernel with this fix: > http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/jeremy/xen.git;a=commit;h=fa9bb82fe5b971cdbea301b76c9be709c4c34b29 > > It fixes a crash that happens with a buggy e820 memory map (buggy BIOS), > it has been noticed on some Dell R310 servers.I''ve just cloned Jeremy''s stable-2.6.32.x and I will try with it and report back. -- Sebastián Cruz default50@gmail.com GPG FP: 5D35 54C4 ABA7 DED9 133F 5272 04F7 13E3 B03D 64C4 _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I just compiled the kernel with Jeremy''s stable branch as of yesterday. I used the config-2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 from Debian and built a kernel package the Debian way and voila! Everything else (but the kernel) is a stock Debian Squeeze. As a side note I''m using dom0_mem boot parameter and the BIOS firmware is the latest for this Dell server. I was hoping to get the patch merged in Debian''s Xen kernel. Is there anyone around here able to do that or should I just file a bug? Thanks! -- Sebastián Cruz default50@gmail.com GPG FP: 5D35 54C4 ABA7 DED9 133F 5272 04F7 13E3 B03D 64C4 _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
