Hi list, I need an advice on the both mentioned above topics. We will start using Xen to replace some older servers. We are thinking about the following possible combinations: 1. Debian Etch with Xen 3.0 from Debian packages. 2. Debian Etch with Xen 3.1 from Source 3. Debian Lenny with Xen 3.1 from packages. I would appreciate, if you can tell me some (dis-)advantages of the three combinations. Here are some of my thoughts: 1: - easier to maintain than from source - stable version of debian 2: - stable version of Debian - current version of Xen 3: - Lenny is still testing, maybe not stable enough - Current Version of Xen - easier to maintain than from source FYI: We are going to use only paravirtualization. Because 3.1.1 version has some improvements over version 3.0.4 for etch. Lenny is nice the new xen utils are included but there is no xen kernel image for it. So you have to build it your self. That why i deciced to go for 2 Regards -- -- ******************************************************************** * * * Bas van der Vlies e-mail: basv@sara.nl * * SARA - Academic Computing Services phone: +31 20 592 8012 * * Kruislaan 415 fax: +31 20 6683167 * * 1098 SJ Amsterdam * * * ******************************************************************** _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I use RHEL 5.1 with bundled xen 3.1 (rpm version still says 3.0 though), and the upgrade process from RHEL 5 -> 5.1 which includes xen 3->3.1 has been relatively smooth. Xen 3.1 is a great improvement for me because it has 32-on-64 support and allows running Opensolaris PV on linux. If you like Debian, why not try Ubuntu Gutsy? It comes with Xen 3.1. Re: [Xen-users] Which Debian version? Which xen version?
I have Debian Etch on x86_64 and Xen 3.1 compliled from source. It runs OK, except for the problem I reported in my previous post: I can''t run more than 80 domains because of a limitation, which is unclear to me. Regards, Arik On 12/4/07, Fajar A. Re: [Xen-users] Which Debian version? Which xen version?
Hi, thanks for your experiences and hints. We are going to use Debian Etch with a self-compiled Xen 3.1.
