Hi all, I manage to create a VM (slackware image) and hide the PCI device (qlogic HBA) from Dom0 to DomainU. Now the Dom0 cant see this HBA and the ''xm list -l'' shows this pci device under the DomainU. But how can I do some scsi inquiry or check if this PCI device is visible to the DomainU from the DomainU''s console. Any help? I tried with the ''lspci'' but it doesnot give any output. I tried to load the driver (QLA2200, Qlogic FC HBA) but this driver is only for RH and suse Linux not for Slackware.Any idea. I also have another VM installed on the same host with RHEL. But changing the config file present at /SRxxx/SRM/configs doesnot show this pci Device in the ''xm list -l'' output. Can I do something for this RHEL DomainU? So this is a driver that is delivered as a module, not as source-code? In that case I''d recommend one of the following options (in no particular order): 1. Find a different hardware vendor that has a open-source driver. 2. Use one of the hardware vendors preferred distros. 3. Try to find a slackware version of the driver.> I also have another VM installed on the same host with RHEL. Other than that, I can''t see how one would work and the other not. -- Mats> Can I do something for this RHEL DomainU? > > Thanks and regards > Ashit > > -----Original Message----- > From: Petersson, Mats [mailto:Mats.Petersson@amd.com] > Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2007 3:08 PM > To: Ashit Kumar; xen-users@lists.xensource.com; > xen-tools@lists.xensource.com > Cc: xen-tools-request@lists.xensource.com > Subject: RE: [Xen-users] Storage for DomU > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com > > [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] On Behalf Of Ashit > > Kumar > > Sent: 11 April 2007 10:26 > > To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com; xen-tools@lists.xensource.com > > Cc: xen-tools-request@lists.xensource.com > > Subject: [Xen-users] Storage for DomU > > > > Hi all, > > I manage to create a VM (slackware image) and hide the PCI device > > (qlogic HBA) from Dom0 to DomainU. > > Now the Dom0 cant see this HBA and the ''xm list -l'' shows this pci > > device under the DomainU. > > But how can I do some scsi inquiry or check if this PCI device is > > visible to the DomainU from the DomainU''s console. > > Any help? > > "lspci" should show this device and not much else in your DomU (as > DomU''s can''t see devices that haven''t been given to them, it will only > show [I think] a few "fake" devices that Xen uses for it''s drivers). > > The other idea is of course to load the correct driver for the device > (e.g. modprobe drivername). Ok will just check the options suggested and will update you. Try to find a slackware version of the driver.QLA2x drivers are available for Linux as GPL source code in support.qlogic.com: http://download.qlogic.com/drivers/54276/qla2xxx-v8.01.04-1-dist.tgz The package contains proprietary, binary libraries, though, but they aren''t needed for the driver and basic usage. RedHat''s kernels include the qla2x driver. If the device is exported correctly to the domU and the domU kernel supports PCI frontend, then it could be that he''s missing the kernel build dirs or missed the source version of the driver. -- lfr 0/0 _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Try to find a slackware version of the driver.Binary modules in general won''t be compatible between Xen and non-Xen kernels... They may not load, and even if you did load them they may not work because of the differences between Xen and bare metal. People have managed to load the binary blobs for graphics drivers but fiddling with the wrapper code, though. Summary: to be more sure it''ll work, it''s better to compile the module for the Xenified kernel. Cheers, Mark> > I also have another VM installed on the same host with RHEL.
