I am trying to install WinXP in a DomU on my new machine. My tests are made with: Hardware : MB Asus M2NPV-VM with Nvidia chipset and 1 Gb RAM AMD Athlon X2 processor (dual core - SVM capable) Software : Ubuntu 6.06 and Ubuntu 6.10 both for i386 and for AMD64 Xen : last binary tarball 3.0.3 for 32 bit SMP and for 64 bit SMP I am able to install xen and boot xen kernel. Xen kernel show SVM as enabled When I start xp virtual machine (no network, for test only), with this configuration: kernel = "/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader" builder=''hvm'' memory = 256 name = "winXP" acpi=1 apic=1 disk=[''file:/media/hda2/tmp/xp.img,ioemu:hda,w'',''file:/media/hda2/tmp/cd_xp.iso,hdc:cdrom,r''] boot="d" sdl=1 vnc=0 serial=''pty'' XP install start but I can''t use any function key (F5 or F6). Install procede to disk formatting and copy files. After this XP install need to reboot machine. After reboot I get a blank screen and an idle Domu, after (apparently) 2 screen resize. xm list show -b---- status Test made with acpi and apic on or off, with 32 bit or 64 bit versions give all same result. Also moving image file on Sata or IDE disk don''t change anything. Windows XP installed directly on this machine is correctly working as is correctly working Ubuntu Linux and Dom0 linux Is my MB unsupported by current Xen version? On my case, I never get any SDL window nor can I connect through vnc. My domu hangs idle immediately. Erwan Mas has also wrote about problem with this MB. Maybe you can check his post: http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2006-10/msg00754.html and see what we can do. Another step in my test on my new M2NPV-VM MB for Xen install. I have installed XP on a virtual disk (a file) using qemu. Install go to the end correctly and I can boot XP, login and use it. Now I boot a Xen kernel, installed from 3.0.3 binary tarball, start Domu with XP disk and XP don''t start. Screen go blank after 2 resize and all is freeze in Domu. So, i suppose, current Xen version is not able to use SVM capability of my MB/Processor. My test box is: Hardware : MB Asus M2NPV-VM with Nvidia chipset and 1 Gb RAM AMD Athlon X2 processor (dual core - SVM capable) Software : Ubuntu 6.06,Ubuntu 6.10 both for i386 and for AMD64 and FC6 for i386 Xen : last binary tarball 3.0.3 for 32 bit SMP and for 64 bit SMP Regards Franco _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Our system has been running without issue paravirtualized and HVM. Our working test box is: Hardware : MB Asus P5LD2-VM R2.0 with Intel 945G chipset and 1 GB RAM Intel Core2 Duo 6600 (ACPI 2.0, and ACPI/APIC enabled) ATA and SATA drives were used individual and SATA RAID Intel 1Gb built-in NIC, Intel built-in video Software : Debian 3.1 Guests : FC6, Debian 3.1, Gentoo 2006.1 Windows XP/2003 Xen : 3.0.3 for 32 bit SMP _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
