[Xen-users] Xen/HVM on Intel 945G[Z] Chipset, Asus P5GZ-MX BIOS
Hi List! We want to order new hardware for or training course lab, it should run xen HVMs. CPU will be Intel core 2 duo. Does anybody know if the Intel chipset 945GZ and the BIOS of the ASUS P5GZ-MX are IVT-aware? /nils. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Be aware, that not all core 2 duos support vmx, you can find the specs somewhere on the Intel site. To the mainboard I can say nothing. Any HVM success story? /nils. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Hello am running XEN HVM on: Core2Duo e6600 Intel DG965SSCK Shrewsbury, iG965G. mATX 2x1GB PC 667MB 2x250GB SATA swRAID1 - rock stable - you will need to compile e1000 module using latest intel linux drivers because kernel driver for e1000 doesnt work under xen (at least 2.6.16.29-xen) - little problematic installation becuase of jmicron pata controller used on mb. Solved with booting from USB CD-ROM Br Peter Braun 2006/11/12, Nils Toedtmann <xen-users@nils.toedtmann.net>:> Am Sonntag, den 12.11.2006, 11:34 +0100 schrieb Nils Toedtmann: > > We want to order new hardware for or training course lab, it should run > > xen HVMs. CPU will be Intel core 2 duo. Solved with booting from USB CD-ROMThanks, good to know that G965 works with linux & xen/HVM. But we need a cheap MoBo with external SATA, so the DG965SSCK is no option. /n. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I''ve been looking at that board too. If there is an option for vt in the bios, can we assume it is supported. I though about contacting the OEM but with the stories of Dell reps saying a box was supported and then it turning out not to be...don''t know if that would actually be much use. I wish it could be as easy as finding out if there is an option for vt in the bios. However, that option is greyed out and cannot be changed to "disabled" - what that mean? Is VT enabled and usable or would the BIOS enable VT but mistakenly it believes there is no VT-aware CPU? Is there a test program for Win32 which checks, if the VMX-instructions are actually available? /nils. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Re: [Xen-users] Xen/HVM on Intel 965 Chipset, Asus P5B-VM BIOS
It works! FC6 runs xen-hvm on an ASUS P5B-VM out-of-the-box (at least with update kernel 2.6.18-1.2849.fc6xen). The P5B-VM has an intel G965 chipset, including GMI X3000 graphics adapter and ICH8R SATA controller, the BIOS revision is 0307. Setting the SATA BIOS option "AHCI", the only problem left was that FC6 does not recognize the onboard RealTek 8111B GB NIC. /nils.
