[Xen-users] VT-ready workstation for SuSE10.1/Xen and Windows
I''m wondering if the new Dell Precision 490 workstation is/looks to be VT-ready, planning it for SuSE10.1/Xen and unmodifies Windows guest? From the system specs: 1-2 Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5000 series 64-bit processors Intel 5000X chipset Windows XP/Vista or Redhat EWS4 Linux http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/precn_490?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&~section=specs#tabtop Rgds, Terje J. A follow up: According to my information from a Dell sail representative, the new Dell Precision 490 and 690 workstations should be VT enabled. Looking on the Xen Wiki Intel VT page it contains not dual core Xeon 5000 processors, not Intel 5000x chipsets and none Intel mother boards. Is this page to date? http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/IntelVT?highlight=(vt)> I''m wondering if the new Dell Precision 490 workstation is/looks to be > VT-ready, planning it for SuSE10.1/Xen and unmodifies Windows guest? > > From the system specs: > 1-2 Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5000 series 64-bit processors > Intel 5000X chipset > Windows XP/Vista or Redhat EWS4 Linux > > http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/precn_490?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&~section=specs#tabtop > > Rgds, > Terje J. Re: [Xen-users] VT-ready workstation for SuSE10.1/Xen and Windows
Yes, I also noticed the lack of this hardware on xenwiki''s Intel VT page. The question is however, if this page is up-to-date with this new "next generation" dual-core hardware from Intel? Here is an clip from the Intel web page with url below: "..... Based on the Intel® 5000X chipset (Greencreek), Intel® 5000P chipset (Blackford) and the Intel® 5000V chipset (Blackford-V), these new products will provide new options for Intel I/O Acceleration Technology and Intel Virtualization Technology, ..." http://developer.intel.com/design/servers/2006_products.htm Although this maybe doesn''t verify precisely VT or not in the 5000x workstation, I would be surprised if it isn''t VT-enabled. This because Intel the last year expressed a policy to support and told that VT would be usual in (mostly every) new servers and workstations platforms in the year to come. Terje J. That''s not one of the chipsets listed as supporting the VMX technology on the following web page: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/IntelVT _Mike_ Terje J. According to the following powerpoint: http://summit.xensource.com/pdfs/Xen_VT_Intel_SSaxena.pdf Blackford chipsets along with the Dempsey 5000 series Xeons do support VT. Looks like the wiki needs to be updated. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
