In order to enable VMX for use by Xen you must not only have
a VMX capable chip, you must also have a BIOS that supports
it.
If your BIOS supports it - you should have a option in the BIOS
screen which will let you ''enable'' or
''disable'' the feature.
Make sure it''s enabled.
Also (this is the one that got me) make for my machine saving and
rebooting wasn''t enough. Once the change had been made I had
to completely power the machine down and then power it on again
before the setting would take effect.
Once it does take effect - you should no longer see the
''VMX disabled'' message, but instead see a ''VMXON
...'' message.
