Very soon Guild Wars 2, the MMO we've all been waiting for (right? right!) is coming, and I would like to do my part to make sure that it runs under Wine from day one. Especially as GW1 is one of the top-performing games under Wine. Now I am not an avid coder, but I will pre-purchase the CE, and with it comes access to all the beta events between April 10 and release. So there should be plenty of time to optimize. So, what can I do? Logs? (what types) Testing? Grunt work? (i.e. things that take time to do but one maybe does not have to have extensive programming experience to do. I am a fast learner though, so if only there are clear instructions I can do most things). Anything I should do/try first? Thanks for any input. :D
I am as interested on getting Guild Wars 2 running on wine. I'm not in beta but coming April 10, I'll be pre-ordering it as well. Let's hope it runs flawless out of the box :D
If you not heard of Guild Wars 2, you should check links below: http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1058358-Guild-Wars-2-Mass-info-for-the-uninitiated.-READ-ME http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/
Gretings, I am a noob ubuntu user who has the honor (luck) of beeing part of the beta test. I am running wine 1.3.28 and guild wars 2 ran out of the box :O The fps is low but the game is far from optimized (low fps in windows too). This news is to good to be secret :)
Thanks Equareo. This news made my day.
That is so nice Equareo! :) Could you tell us a bit more about your setup? I would be very interested in your Linux kernel version, graphics card driver version, if your system is 32 or 64 bit, if you have any special Wine settings (Windows version, dll overrides, special registries) and what your terminallog looks like: Code: wine Gw2.exe > terminallog.log 2>&1 Especially the latter would be super helpful to see what a "working" GW2 through wine looks like (even though un-optimised, at least it runs :) ).
I also saw the "crashing when downloading" issue. Just relaunching the client "fixes" it, but of course that is not a permanent solution (yay for babysitting a 12.8GB download). Anyways, looking at my error logs I get one of two errors when the client crashes: Code: *--> Error Logs <--* GetLogicalProcessorInformation failed, increase buffer bytes to 1536 Download failed for 0x000043ab:0x00000000->0x000043ab with error 7:0:0:0 (error:product:module:line) [tries left: 5] *--> Crash <--* Exception: c0000005 Memory at address 00000000 could not be read App: Gw2.exe Pid: 35 Cmdline: BaseAddr: 00400000 ProgramId: 101 Build: 13985 When: 2012-04-13T23:51:19Z 2012-04-14T01:51:19+02:00 Uptime: 0 days 0:08:04 Flags: 0 alternatively Code: *--> Error Logs <--* GetLogicalProcessorInformation failed, increase buffer bytes to 1536 Download failed for 0x00006568:0x00000000->0x00006568 with error 7:0:0:0 (error:product:module:line) [tries left: 5] *--> Crash <--* Assertion: m_ioCount File: ..\..\..\Core\Platform\Windows\Exe\ExeIoConn.cpp(129) App: Gw2.exe Pid: 68 Cmdline: BaseAddr: 00400000 ProgramId: 101 Build: 13985 When: 2012-04-13T23:57:19Z 2012-04-14T01:57:19+02:00 Uptime: 0 days 0:03:36 Flags: 0 Regarding the log-in screen, it looks (and sounds) nice for me too. The only thing is that the maximize/minimize/close buttons look a little "off". And yay, tomorrow is the day! :P
