Hi, I installed evernote under wine on ubuntu 10.10, but now that I want to update to the latest version of evernote, I get a message that evernote is already installed for one user and I can only install the new version after uninstalling the previous one. The trouble is that when I do that from the wine menu it seems to uninstall but then reinstalls the same older version. I'm stuck in a loop. I just want evernote to update. How do I do it? My wine version is up to date.

How do I do it?How does this program update? Is it through a web interface, the program or some other method?> My wine version is up to date.I still want you to run wine --version and provide what is given. Wine development is up to 1.3.16 and that is what we will ask you to use for any troubleshooting/testing. Thank you. James McKenzie
My wine version is 1.2.2-0ubuntu2~maverick2 (wine1.2) The ubuntu software manager says it's up to date. I will now try the beta version. The program refuses to install the upgrade in any way I try: from the program, or from a downloaded new version, or from th ewine install menu. OK I tried installing the new version of wine, but now not even the installed version of evernote works, and wine does not come up. It has installed but does not work at all. I will go back to the stable version. So the problem is still that I cannot uninstall or update evernote. And with wine beta I cannot even run.
> You state that Evernote will not run with the development version but > does with the stable? That is correct. And when I went back to the stable version it will run but not update. It says I can only have one per user installation, and to uninstall the per user install to update. But when I try to uninstall it seems to directly reinstall evernote.
I guess I'll just stay with my current version of evernote until this is resolved then. I do hope you can fix it. I use evernote under windows and the newer version is really better... Anyway thanks in advance for your help.
I found the following workaround: If I run the evernote installer as root I can create a new instance of evernote (for root) which runs fine. I then copied all the files from this install to my own user folder, overwriting the older files. If I do that, the application runs correctly. However it still will not update in the regular way. But, I can run the root install, update it, and then copy the files to my user folder. At least in this way I get the newest version of evernote to work.

Installing the new version of Evernote to a clean wineprefix as a regular user should work. If you can only install it as root, something is seriously messed up with your system.
