I have been trying to install Nobeltec4, an oldish windows chart navigation system, and the installer keeps stopping with the message, "the file C:\users\bill\Temp\GLF8e4.tmp could not be opened..." and suggests I check for permissions and space, etc. I have seen the documentation on that and I really do have permissions and plenty of space. I go and browse the C drive under wine (v 1.2) and I can see the tmp file has been created. So why can't the installer that created the file now open it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)
I know this is an old piece of software, but this was the first chance I had to try it. It didn't run under my legit copy of Win7, and I found an old forum that said it wouldn't run on any windows later than Win2k. So that's what I was using in WINE when I kept having my error. Using Win98 seems to work fine! One problem though, was that the installation killed a different app in WINE that was running under XP. I had to reinstall vcrun6 with winetricks to get that working again. Nobeltec is a vast ship-navigation and yacht management system so I haven't scratched the surface yet on just what works and what doesn't - but I have a good install! :D
