git status might be the command you are looking for. The status line gives you
the current commit from what I remember.

wine --version will only tell you the current version of wine. Useful if you
are bisecting across a large number of wine versions, useless if you are
bisecting across one version, say 1.3.8 and 1.3.9 as you should always get
1.3.8.
