I got the same problem: any MSOffice application crashes when the file dialog window is started (in any case: open file, save as, etc.). I have turnned on WINEDEBUG=warn+all and i got almost the same. Also, I'm using a PT-BR office version and I also got this message: warn:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"C:\\Arquivos de programas\\Arquivos comuns\\Microsoft Shared\\DW\\1046\\dwintl20.dll": /home/fragoso/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Arquivos de programas/Arquivos comuns/Microsoft Shared/DW/1046/DWINTL20.DLL: cabe?alho ELF inv?lido warn:module:load_builtin_dll cannot open .so lib for builtin L"dwintl20.dll": /usr/bin/../lib/wine/dwintl20.dll.so: N?o ? possivel abrir arquivo de objetos compartilhado: Arquivo ou diret?rio n?o encontrado In fact, I'm not sure about the problem. But Office is not working...

It could be this: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24606 If you're not using the latest development release, upgrade and see if that fixes it.
I was using Ubuntu 9.10 and Wine 1.2. I upgrade now to Ubuntu 10.04.1 (2.6.32-25-generic). The problem still persist.

Delete or rename ~/.wine and reinstall Office without any winetricks, then run Word. If the problem persists, post plain console output--no debug channels. If the problem is solved, you can add the overrides specified in the AppDB.
