[Wine] WoW error "failed to find a suitable display device.."
Let me preface this post by saying I'm very new to Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) and thank you for taking the time to read this. I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit, wine 1.3.2 and 2 ati 5770 cards in crossfire. I've upgraded the video drivers to the latest 10.8 version found on amd.ati.com When I try to run wow.exe I get the message "failed to find a suitable display device" this occurs with and w/o the -opengl flag. I've ran "glxinfo | grep "direct rendering"" and received "returns direct rendering:Yes" Thank you in advance.

On a 64 bit system your video can work fine with the 64 bit drivers and seem like everything is okay. But for 32 bit programs through wine, such as WoW, you have to have 32 bit drivers for it use.

[Wine] Re: WoW error "failed to find a suitable display device..&q
Thank you. After reading your post I went into synaptic and installed fglrx, fglrx-amdcccle, fglrx-modaliases, jockey-gtk and jockey-common. I had to remove restart / activate restart the proprietary FGLRX driver. ATI catalyst is showing the up to date 10.8 catalyst and 8.762 package version. WoW now works in opengl mode. However in D3D mode the background animation is upside down and the text is right side up. I'll have to research / read up on that one. Thank you.
