wine users - Aug 2010 - "Unredirect Fullscreen Windows" instead of disabling Compiz?

It's common knowledge that disabling desktop effects (or
disabling compiz) helps game performance in wine.

Somebody mentioned that the Unredirect Fullscreen Windows
compiz option (see http://wiki.compiz.org/GeneralOptions ),
settable via ccsm aka compizconfig-settings-manager
fixes performance problems just as well as disabling
compiz does.

I hadn't heard of that before.  I never run compiz, but for
those who do, does this work?
