I am using Wine under PCLinuxOS. I installed a program, Logger32, that ran under Wine, but which did not display dates correctly. I asked about this and was told to install winetricks and then to run dcom98, which I did. Now, it seems that none of my Windows programs runs. They show an hourglass in the system tray, then disappear. I tried reloading Wine to no avail, and then read that this seldom works. Is there a way for me to get Wine sorking again? My skills at the LInux command line are meager, but I can follow simple instructions. PCLinuxOS is very GUI-oriented. Jan

You might be able to disable the override (AFAIK a environment varable might be used so you can get into Winecfg) (Not sure which variable and its value...)> My skills at the LInux command line are meager, but I can follow simple instructions. ?PCLinuxOS is very GUI-oriented. > > Jan

There do not seem to be any overrides installed. That is, the only thing I can do is add overrides. Jan

I am able to reload the programs. One of them has an address database; I believe I backed it up, but I can dig into ~wine for it and save it separately. Jan Jan

I also tried to reinstall wine. However: there is no .wine directory when i put in the CD for one program, it asks me what to use to open it, and when I select Wine, the apply button does not appear the two Windows programs that were installed are still in the KDE menu Jan
I followed the instructions at the Wine FAQ and ran the recommended commands. All the KDE menu entries were eliminated, and Wine was uninstalled. I then went to the repository and reinstalled Wine. Then I put the CD with an install program in it into the CD drive, and mounted it, and clicked on SETUP.EXE. It asked me to select an application. If I navigate to More Applications > Emulators > Wine, the apply button does not appear. There are five subprograms under Wine, Configurator, File Manager, Minesweeper, Notepad, and Registry Editor. Do I select one of these? Configurator brings up the Configurator window, and File Manager does not run the Setup either. Jan
OK, I remembered how to open a file from Wine. I will return to the old thread about another program that displayed dates incorrectly. When I tried the fix, Wine stopped working. I am not sure what I will do at this point. Thank you to all for the help in fixing Wine. Jan
