Since I can't find Microsofts Zune player on the vote list I'll just ask about this here. I'm new to Ubuntu Linux and the Wine program, and I'm slowly but surely learning more about linux every day. I finally got linux dual booted alongside windows XP to find that Wine has a list of supported programs. Zune isn't one of them, sadly. I like the way that the player works, runs, and looks. If there is a linux media player that is close to the way it works I would gladly use that. I'm using the one that comes with Linux, currently, and I hate how it groups some things. So if anyone is working on Zune for Wine I'd love to know about it. Or if there is a media player that works like the Zune player also, I'd like to know about it. Secondly, I got WoW running using Wine, but the graphics are alittle messed up. I used the registry tweak for opengl but it didn't do anything to the game. I followed it to a T. My video card isn't fully supported by linux, I think. I get the little icon in the top right of the GUI that has a card and a lock beside it. I have the card enabled with the limited drivers. I have an nvidia geforce 6600. I went to the nvidia website and they have linux drivers for the 6 series, but I couldn't figure out how to install them. The graphics for the world don't run correctly and the framerate isn't exactly what I would call smooth. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
1) Use envy (since you are using ubuntu) to download / install your graphics drivers: http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html 2) Zune's not supported because .net doesn't work (and I think it also needs windows media player 11 or some or nonsense). I personally used KVM and run windows xp inside linux, and then installed zune into that. Yes, that's complicated (there are some decent guides for using KVM). I think virtual box would also work, or really any virtualization software. 3) Make sure you are using the most up-to-date version of wine and not the one that came with Ubuntu. Follow the guide here: http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb
xfragbunnyx wrote:> Alright, I'll check out virtual box than. But I bought my zune when it first came out, back when all I had was windows xp. That was awhile ago. Also, envy keeps giving an error message when I try to install my video drivers. I downloaded legacy for ubuntu and everything, and it tells me my operating system is not supported. So I guess that my card just isn't supported by linux?xfragbunnyx, you said you downloaded Envy Legacy, but if you take a look here http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html you'll see that the right version of Envy for the latest ubuntu (8.04, the Hardy Heron) is not Envy Legacy but Envy NG so try to uninstall it and then install envy ng. hope this helps !
