Are you used the command line ( -dxlevel 80 ) option to launch the game?
This solved my problem of corrupt graphics and texts in game.

Also, the fact your display resolution doesn't go back to how it was before,
I think is due  to a crash in you app.

Yep, it can also be another cause of the problem.
Use your desktop resolution in game and colors.
