Can anyone offer help with installing Maximizer Ver 7 under Wine with latest Kubuntu? If you can, or have done this, I would love to hear from you. I can get it to install but not run. Thanks -- * Ian Whitfield*/* */* ZS6CDX* Pretoria, South Africa **/ /
Is there a demo available? What problems are you experiencing? Can you attach terminal output? -Austin Ian Whitfield <whitfield@federalsaints.net> wrote: Can anyone offer help with installing Maximizer Ver 7 under Wine with latest Kubuntu? Respond to the listserve in the future, so everyone can help/benefit from this. Try cd'ing into the directory and launching the program. Most windows program wont' run unless called from their directory (program bug, not wine). So, for example, open up konsole, and type: $ cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/YourApp/ $ wine yourapp.exe And see if it works. If not, try looking on http://appdb.winehq.org for your application for advice, and/or on http://bugs.winehq.org to file a bug (be sure to check if someone else already filed a bug first). (Background is Windows Support Manager etc for 20+ years!) I have everything up and running except for a couple of items such as one Windows Machine not being read by the Linux Box and not being able to get my Treo 650 recognized. BUT the main requirement is to get my Contact Manager onto Linux as I can not find a suitable equivalent! I have managed to get it to install with Wine and all seemed fine. But when I run it nothing happens - no error messages or anything!!?? Reading up on the Wine site I see to run it in a Shell Window (?) so I tried the run command but whatever I put in this I get a 'folder not found' error. The problem seems to be that Linux does not like spaces in folder names but Wine has put the program under 'Program Files". I hate to be such a pest but anything you can help out with will be GREATLY appreciated. It will not run again!!! All I get is a frozen program and Splash Screen (on ALL desktops)!! Have looked on WineHQ and can only find one reference to Maaimizer with the comment that they do not support it!!?? -- * Ian Whitfield*/* */* ZS6CDX* Pretoria, South Africa **/ /
Sorry I have not come back to the Forum yet on the last suggestion. Was messing around with 'Akregator' (Not sure if this is the cause!!) and all Hell broke out with my system. Things don't run any more and I got lots of freezes and even total Black Screen" (of death??). After a couple of re-starts and screen after screen of errors etc I got the system up again but it is not very happy. Will have to re-load I think but I loaned out my CD to a friend so will have to go and fetch on other side of town. Will get back re: Maximizer once I have sorted the problem. BTW is there any equiv of CTR-ALT-DEL to stop programs in Linux?? -- * Ian Whitfield*/* */* ZS6CDX* Pretoria, South Africa **/ /
CTRL-ALT-ESC is Xkill, click on a program to stop it. Otherwise, use top or pstree -p to find a process number in a terminal and then sigkill -9 program_number to kill it. -Austin -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
